Position SummaryThe Marketing & Communications Coordinator supports district departments and schools with marketing and communication projects. The individual will be responsible for content creation and strategy, marketing analytics, social media management, website updates, and graphic design. The position will require a blend of technical skills, creativity, and a strong understanding of marketing and communication best practices. It will play a pivotal role in ensuring that messaging is consistent, timely, and effectively reaches its intended audiences. The person in this role will work under all applicable laws, guidelines, and UVA policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Content Creation: Creates and implements annual content calendar. Researches and produces story features and collateral materials. Assists with creating, fact-checking, editing content, and assembling information for electronic marketing materials, newsletters, and outlets including story and design conceptualization. Creates interview guides and interview subjects. Creates compelling headlines, bylines, articles, and digital content. Edits a variety of written communication for content and accuracy.
  • Website: Serves as a lead content creator and assistant editor. Responsible for writing blog stories, updating page content, tracking website analytics, researching best practices, and complying with website accessibility standards.
  • Social Media: Leads content research, development, and writing, covers school and district events, reviews, and reports associated analytics, and maintains social media presence and reach.
  • Graphic Design, Photography & Video: Develops and produces video and digital content for social media, websites, and presentations. Photographs and films events and people throughout the district. Edits photos and videos. Writes compelling summaries of events to accompany photographs. Creates graphic designs and videos that capture and summarize district projects.
  • Events: Covers and promotes district and school events. Assists in the creation of creative multimedia content for school and district events, special events, and other purposes when assigned.
  • Travel occasionally to support statewide mandated testing and student-sponsored events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and collaboratively with staff and external partners. Must be detail-oriented and organized. Must be able to take initiative, think creatively, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to manage multiple projects with various deadlines at once.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Digital Media, Journalism, or a related degree is required.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in Communications, Digital Media, content creation, website editing, video/media production, and experience in creating effective, marketing materials and tools, preferably in an education environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with editing and design software (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Canva) and content management systems (e.g., WordPress).
  • Strong writing, proofreading, graphic design, and content generation skills.
  • Firm grasp of available tools and platforms in social media, graphic design, and video editing.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree
  • 5 years of experience as an educational leader
  • 4 years in online learning environments
  • 3 years of charter or traditional school system
