Job Summary

Serves as a member of the Center's Executive Leadership team with a portfolio centered on providing strategic leadership for preparation and transition of Illinois students to post-graduation opportunities. Specifically oversees services and resources related to pre-health advising, preparation and application to graduate/professional school, and preparation and search for internships and post-graduation employment. Also serves as the Principal Investigator for the Illini Success initiative and leads assessment of learning outcomes and impact of The Career Center. Contributes to all major decisions impacting the Center and assists with strategic visioning, planning and prioritization; management of budgets, personnel, and operations; development of strategic partnerships and new initiatives; and assessment and reporting of outcomes and impact. Must be a passionate advocate for career development, student success, and committed to delivering high-quality career services within a higher education environment. Must value and foster meaningful relationships, thrive in a team environment, and be committed to advancing all forms of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Duties & Responsibilities

Senior Management and Administrative Functions (55%)
  • Serve as a member of the Center’s executive leadership team to assist with strategic planning processes, establishing goals, developing action plans, and creating a positive environment that supports growth and continuous improvement
  • Provide high-level guidance to the Pre-Health and Graduate School team and Employer Relations and Professional Connections team, including direct supervision of team leads and support for the supervision of indirect reports and paraprofessionals
  • Oversee the following functional areas: pre-health advising, graduate/professional school preparation and application, job/internship search and application, and engagement of employers and admissions representatives, including recruitment activities and use of Handshake@Illinois across the career services community
  • Contribute to the exploration, implementation, and coordination of technology and tools for service delivery and stakeholder engagement
  • Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of unit policies, operational processes, and budget management
  • Guide initiatives, policies, and action of the broader career services community as a contributing member of the Career Services Council and associated committees, task groups, and knowledge communities
Assessment and Research (25%)
  • Serve as Principal Investigator and lead campuswide collaborative effort to collect, analyze, and report graduation outcomes data in collaboration with colleagues from the Division of Management Information, Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning, and Office of the Provost
  • Supervise Data Coordinator and Analyst, as well as graduate research assistants who assist with research/assessment activities
  • Oversee effective and ethical research/assessment design; data collection, analysis, use, and storage; and reporting and publishing of data and research findings
  • Develop plan and lead effort to assess and report impact and reach of The Career Center, including learning outcomes assessment, program evaluation, and needs analysis
  • Lead The Career Center Assessment team and contribute to the Student Affairs Assessment Committee
  • Serve as liaison to research faculty and research initiatives that intersect with career development, student success, and/or delivery of career services
  • Collaborate and contribute to creating and publishing annual report
Stakeholder Engagement (10%)
  • Represent the Center in developing and fostering relationships and strategic partnerships with on-campus stakeholders and external constituents
  • Lead integration and inclusion of alumni, employers, admissions representatives and other professionals in services and programs
  • Serve on The Career Center, Student Affairs and/or campus committees, task forces, work groups, and advisory committees
  • Actively participate in and contribute to professional organizations associated with the field of career development, student success, and/or higher education
Direct Service to Students (10%)
  • Coach students one-on-one and in groups regarding career exploration and planning, engagement in experiential learning opportunities, employment/internship search, and graduate or professional school preparation and application

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in career development, counseling, higher education, student affairs, or related field.
  • Six years of professional work experience in career services, student services, or higher education that includes progressive leadership, administrative, or management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience researching and/or assessing learning outcomes and/or post-graduation outcomes, including collection and statistical analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative data.
  • Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and managing educational programs, as well as use of quantitative and/or qualitative data to determine impact and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and across cultural differences.
  • Experience supervising full-time professional staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree.
  • Advanced degree in career development, counseling, higher education, student affairs, or related field.
  • Credentialed as a career coach or counselor through one of the national career development organizations.
  • Experience that demonstrates understanding of career and student development theory and practice.
  • Experience establishing goals, executing strategies, leading innovation, and managing change.
  • Experience developing and fostering strategic initiatives, partnerships, and professional relationships.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience that demonstrates knowledge of college recruiting practices, hiring practices, and career services management systems.
  • Experience that demonstrates knowledge of pre-health advising and support for students preparing and applying to graduate/professional school.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 4/16/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
