The position is responsible for monitoring, documenting, and notifying the appropriate persons of any suspicious, dangerous, unusual behaviors, and situations. The Mental Health Monitor Tech will also be responsible for calling emergency codes when the switchboard staff is unavailable and directly monitoring patients on units when needed due to technical issues.
Assumes personal responsibility for maintaining professional development and practice, any certification or credentialing, and education, as required. When directly monitoring patients on units as needed, status according to patient monitoring standards, policies and procedures. This includes completion of vital signs, weight log, intake and output, dietary intake, behavioral rounds sheets (flackers)/Flowsheets, narrative logs and admission checklists or other progress or milieu notes. Reports patient complaints of pain or other concerns in a timely manner. When directly monitoring patients on unit, demonstrates proficiency and skill in providing care to patients; orienting to unit; transport; de-escalation; assistance with activities of daily living; response to codes; use of SCM techniques. Demonstrated proficiency in the following skills: Places patients on monitoring per doctors orders as phoned in by units. Observes the monitors continuously for behaviors indicated based on ordering MDs precautions. Reports behaviors to nurse on unit for immediate interventions. Initiates calls to units each shift to obtain locations of patients being monitored and behaviors for which patients are being monitored. Notifies nurse, Risk department, and or manager as appropriate when quality concerns are present. Attends in-service educations/Healthstream modules to update skills and knowledge. Documents calls to units and seclusion/restraints events. Maintains open communication with co-workers. Phone system. Change and arrange camera views to accommodate unit needs. Complete VMT specific logs. Procedures to report abuse, concerns, safety risks. ADT alarm system Other duties as assigned.
Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
High School graduate or equivalent. Healthcare Provider/Basic Life Support required.
Experience (required and preferred):
2 years of social services experience required, with 1yr in mental health direct patient care preferred. Able to complete Safe Crisis Management and perform Safe Crisis Management techniques, required.
