Position Title: Pharmacy Technician & Support Staff Supervisor
Department: Pharmacy
Supervisor: Pharmacy Director
Hours per week: Full Time - 40 hours per week
Primary FunctionThe Pharmacy Technician & Support Staff Supervisor provides administrative support to the Pharmacy Director and Pharmacist on duty, by coordinating all technical activities of the Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician & Support Staff Supervisor is an integral member of the pharmacy team. Their success will be driven by their ability to build and nurture a culture of continuous improvement and dedicated service. This is an exempt-level, salaried position.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Supervise and assist pharmacy technicians, interns, clerks, and delivery drivers with their roles in the pharmacy. Monitor and prioritize workflow of all support personal, including billing, filling, receiving medications orders, delivering medications etc.
  • Answer any questions pharmacy technicians, clerks, interns, or drivers may have and assisting on performing more specialized procedures.
  • Train all pharmacy technicians, clerks, interns and drivers on Pharmacy software, Health Center’s Electronic Medical Records System, IVR, pharmacy register, P&Ps, PARATA, etc.
  • Responsible for Pharmacy staffing, including scheduling pharmacy technicians, interns, clerks, and drivers; finding replacements for out sick or on vacation and ensuring shift changes run smoothly.
  • Perform complex technical duties as assigned by Pharmacy Director or Pharmacist on duty, involving medication preparation and distribution to provide for the effective daily operation of departmental services.
  • Help Staff Pharmacist with daily and weekly reports.
  • Assist in 340B Self audits and QAPI projects.
  • Assist Pharmacy Director in preparing and organizing Pharmacy for the insurance audits.
  • Place daily medication orders and inventory control.
  • Monitor and supervise daily medications deliveries.
  • Implement pharmacy objectives as determined by the Pharmacy Director.
  • Assist Pharmacy Director in interviewing and hiring of all levels of Pharmacy supportive personal (technicians, clerks, interns, drivers).
  • Assist Pharmacy Director in performance reviews and performance management of all support personal of the Pharmacy.
  • Assisting Pharmacy Director in organizing monthly Pharmacy department meetings.
  • Based upon business needs, perform other duties as required by the position or as assigned by Pharmacy Director.
  • In addition to the supervisory responsibilities, this position will be responsible for all regular functions of the pharmacy technician.
  • Provides regular and timely feedback to Pharmacy Director about issues that arise within the Pharmacy.
Minimum Basic Knowledge
  • High school diploma or its equivalent (GED).
  • National certification as a Pharmacy Technician (PTCB credentialed via Pharmacy Technician Certification Board).
  • Four to Five (4-5) years of pharmacy technician experience in retail or Community Health Center Pharmacy.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in all areas of technician duties.
  • Previous pharmacy experience in leadership or management (teaching/supervising pharmacy technicians) preferred.
  • Serve as a role model by demonstrating company values.
  • Ensure and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Comply with company, local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to cascade communication from leadership to direct reports.
  • Ability to create and help implement training for Pharmacy Technician, Interns, Clerks, and Delivery drivers.
  • Technical knowledge of all pharmacy equipment, clean room equipment, outpatient dispensing, and clerical and purchasing skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to function in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of transitions.
  • Bilingual skills in English & Spanish, Cape Verdean Creole or Portuguese preferred.
Independent ActionWorks independently as well as under the supervision of the Pharmacy Director.
Supervisory ResponsibilitySupervise pharmacy technicians, interns, clerks, delivery drivers.
Define Access Level To PHILevel 3: Authorized to access only certain limited categories of PHI and certain limited sections of the UCHC patient’s medical record that are necessary to perform job duties, whether treatment, payment or operations duties. Staff in this category level should confine the use of PHI to the minimum necessary required and should not access or read parts of the medical record not needed to perform assigned duties.
