Upkara is Hiring a Laboratory Technician Near Ann Arbor, MI

Upkara has developed a novel stabilization technology aiming to eliminate cold storage requirements for biological reagents and pharmaceuticals. Description

As an Upkara Laboratory Technician, you will have a vital role in supporting our continued development and commercialization of the technology.

The successful candidate will be responsible to:
  • Run established analytical methods and molecular biology techniques.
  • Conduct directed experiments, make detailed observations, and communicate observations to the team.
  • Document all experiments appropriately.
  • Perform basic analysis on data generated from experiments.
  • Identify and communicate anomalies in data and deviations in standard procedures in a timely manner.
  • Present outcomes of experiments and experimental plans to the group on a weekly basis.
  • Understand and follow proper laboratory safety protocols for handling chemicals and biological fluids, including wearing proper protective equipment.
  • Coordinate maintenance and calibration of Scientific and/or Manufacturing equipment on a requirement basis.
  • Manufacture and Quality Check products as per established Upkara procedures. Products may include but are not limited to buffers, reagents, reagent kits, process equipment and consumables.
  • Maintain inventory and own timely release of Upkara manufactured products to internal and external customers.
  • Prepare packaging boxes, packaging inserts and other related materials for external product distribution.
  • Assist in operating 3D Printing equipment and perform associated post-processing using handheld manual and electrical tools after undergoing training.
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance activities.
  • Handle and manage laboratory inventory and supplies.
  • Perform other routine laboratory and administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Participate in all applicable Laboratory Safety and Equipment Trainings (provided by Upkara) in a timely manner.

Requirements for this position include:
  • An Associates Degree or higher (degrees should be Science based- Bio/Chem) with more than 1 year of post education laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a safety conscious environment.
  • Experience following established SOPs and protocols.
  • Ability to use an analytical balance, pH meter, centrifuge, plate reader, and volumetric pipettes.
  • Skilled in laboratory reagent and buffer preparation.
  • An inclination to understand, learn and operate basic manufacturing/engineering equipment through appropriate training.
  • An open attitude to learn and execute new laboratory and analytical techniques.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift ~40lbs.
  • Experience using handheld mechanical and electrical tools is a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience with data analysis packages such as EXCEL, Gen5 or Softmax Pro.

Compensation:
The annual salary range for this position is $45,000 - $55,000. The actual compensation may vary based on work experience, education and skill level.
Benefits: Include Medical, Dental, Vision, Short and Long-Term Disability and AD&D, 401(k) with company match.

Location: This is an on-site position located in Ann Arbor, MI.
