Graduate Nurse Medicine to ICU Transitional Program – UPMC Presbyterian

This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus!

Sign-On Bonus Details:

  • $15,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over 1 year of experience
  • $10,000 sign-on bonus available for graduate nurses with less than one year of RN experience with a graduation date of December 2021 and beyond.

Do you have a career goal to become a skilled ICU nurse? UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet designated hospital, is currently hiring a Full-time Registered Nurse to join our Neuro Division. Gaining experience in this division will better prepare nurses to transition into our ICUs. 

This Fast Track to ICU Program is designed to equip you with the skills that you need to become a successful and confident ICU nurse. You will spend your first year on one of our medicine floors and will subsequently be paired with our Medical ICU. In this time, it is our goal to help new graduate and experienced nurses gain the knowledge and skill set required in caring for the diverse and high-acuity patient population of UPMC Presbyterian.

About the Units:

7G at UPMC Presbyterian is a 22-acuity adaptable Telemetry Unit that supports diversity and inclusion in providing care for patients of all specialties such as transplant, cardiology, trauma, neurological, and medical surgical specialties. This unit embodies excellence and innovation in providing cutting edge therapies, with a focus on COVID care. This encompasses research, advanced oxygen maintenance, teletherapies, cardiac monitoring, and partnership with the Intensive Care Units. 7G is a dynamic environment which is made successful by our staff’s outstanding ability to collaboratively engage with physician groups, care management, and ancillary departments. This unit utilizes a flexible team approach, which is representative of UPMC’s vision and values to serve all UPMC customers.
7G is a great fit for any nurse who is looking seeking the employee experience in cultivating their skills, autonomy in critical thinking, and professional growth within the UPMC organization. Our RNs work a rotating schedule and are privileged to have 1:4 ratios.

11S- Our diverse patient population of both step-down and monitored patients can include hepatology, urology, endocrinology, post-surgical complications, pulmonary, infectious disease and many more. This teaching unit is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge. Our RNs work a rotating schedule. Our partnership with our medical teaching teams include daily multidisciplinary bedside rounds and collaboration with discharge planning.

12S Gen Med Stepdown: 12 South at UPMC Montefiore is a 30-bed acuity adaptable General Medicine Unit. Our diverse patient population of both step-down and monitored patients can include hepatology, urology, endocrinology, post-surgical complications, pulmonary, infectious disease and many more. This teaching unit is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge. Our RNs work a rotating schedule. Our partnership with our medical teaching teams include daily multidisciplinary bedside rounds and collaboration with discharge planning.

12N Medical-Surgical: 12 North at UPMC Montefiore is a 24-bed Medicine telemetry unit caring for a diverse patient population. Our patient care team works with a medical teaching team as well as consulting services such hepatology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, transplant, pulmonary and others. This is a team driven unit caring for a diverse patient population at various levels of acuity making 12 North a perfect fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to build broad knowledge and/or gain experience.

10E/W: 10EW at UPMC Montefiore is a 30-bed acuity adaptable General Medicine Unit. Our diverse patient population of both step-down and monitored patients can include hepatology, urology, endocrinology, post-surgical complications, pulmonary, infectious disease and many more. This teaching unit is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge. Our RNs work a rotating schedule. Our partnership with our medical teaching teams include daily multidisciplinary bedside rounds and collaboration with discharge planning.

10S: 10 South at UPMC Montefiore is a 30-bed acuity adaptable medical unit caring for stepdown and telemetry patients. We see a general medical patient population as well as overflow patients from orthopedics, ENT, hepatology, urology, and abdominal transplant. This is a team-driven unit, and we see a diverse population of patients at various levels of acuity, making 10 South a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge. Our RNs work a rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

The Medical ICU at UPMC Presbyterian, a 32-bed critical unit expanding over 4 wings is the largest of Presbyterian’s ICUs. Our patient population includes severe acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, pre and post lung transplants, sepsis, acute renal failure, toxicology, and bariatric patients. You will gain experience with ventilators, trachs, vasopressors, neuromuscular blockades, and CRRT machines. We have a team-oriented approach to meet the physical and mental challenges of the unit. The MICU is an extremely rewarding environment for nurses who enjoy critical thinking and decision-making skills.

A position in the ICU is contingent upon the employee’s performance during the first year of hire. They must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating, lack any disciplinary action, and meet all requirements/expectations of their hiring unit.

Our Registered Nurses work rotating shifts including weekends/holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $29.77
