CERTIFICATION NEEDED: PA PK-12 School Social Worker Educational Specialist certificate
HOURS: 7.5 hours per day
SALARY: As per UDEA Contract
SummaryThe District Social Worker promotes students’ academic, social-emotional, and behavioral success in their educational programs by providing strategic services that identify and address barriers to learning.

Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesThis list is intended to be illustrative rather than complete and serves to show major duties and responsibilities and does not express or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the incumbent in this position. The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the supervisor and/or Principal.
  • Identifies and assesses academic problems through analysis of factors impinging on student adjustment including factors in the home, school, and community.
  • Coordinator/Point of Contact for students experiencing educational instability
  • Liaison for McKinney Vento and/or Foster child responsibilities
  • Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting.
  • Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning.
  • Performs casework service with at-risk students as a means of improving personal, social, or social maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
  • Provides staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues impacting student participation in the learning process.
  • Assists with Truancy Elimination Plans including mediation and collaboration with chronic school avoidant students and their families.
  • Aid and assist parents with completing ACCESS applications, lunch applications and to administer verification procedures.
  • Participate in Child Study Team, multidisciplinary team, SAP team and other team meetings as needed to assess the needs of students and provide pertinent information regarding the student and family.
  • Consults with classroom teachers to help them better understand and work with particular students or manage particular groups/ whole classes of students.
  • Develops programs to address parent/guardian participation in the school and student engagement in the educational process.
  • Conducts home visits related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues.
  • Locates and mobilizes community resources to support students’ access and success within their educational program.
  • Assists principals and staff in the review and analysis of cases concerning school attendance, abuse and neglect, health, mental health, substance abuse, and other issues.
  • Maintains a knowledge of community, school district, and agency resources.
  • Participate as a member of the IEP, 504, and other school based teams to develop interventions for promoting students’ academic success.
  • Conducts staff development on issues related to social-emotional-environmental factors that impact learning.
  • Assist in the placement and maintenance of students in alternative programs such as work study, community service, and day treatment.
  • Assist in transition planning for returning students from alternative programs such as work study, community service, and day treatment.
  • Participate in case and individual conferences with community and service provider agencies to facilitate and coordinate multi-agency communication.
Qualifications & Physical RequirementsTo successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.   • Valid PA certification
  • Proficiency in the use of technology for individual communication and research
  • Proficiency in the presentation of technology to enhance small and large student group information & demonstration sessions.
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with professional contacts including other teachers, administrators, parents, students and support staff
