The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients.

For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds.

Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center is a Certified National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant

Job Location: Early Childhood Clinic

Hours: Monday – Friday; 35 hrs./wk.

Union: Non union

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant to join our team. As a team member, Early Childhood Mental Health (ECMH) Consultant will conduct trainings for staff and provide mental health consultation regarding children with behavioral and/or social emotional needs at early childhood education sites surrounding Manhattan, Harlem, and Bronx area. The ECMH Consultant will develop and maintain positive working partnerships with staff, as well as families at the early childhood organizations. Responsibilities will also include supporting parents, conducting parenting groups, mental health screenings on children and referring children who need intervention beyond on-site consultation for additional services.

Duties

  • Utilize a relationship-based model to coordinate and deliver regular onsite consultative services to partner community programs, providing guidance to professionals and caregivers to effectively understand and support children’s positive behavior and development.
  • Promote high quality interactions and relationships with caregivers and community members who interact with young children.
  • Create a shared understanding of the effects of trauma and adversity, including oppression, prejudice, discrimination, racism, and gender inequity on the developing brain.
  • Support the mental health and well-being of adults who care for infants and young children.
  • Connect and refer infants, families, and providers to programs, resources, and supports.
  • Build relationships with other early childhood serving systems within a community.
  • Assist with facilitating an evidence-based parenting curriculum, such as Circle of Security.
  • Provide dyadic therapy to children and caregivers.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a license-eligible mental health field such as social work, psychology or related field with a focus and strong experience in early childhood development, and trauma settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and expertise of child development, early childhood mental health, early childhood social/emotional screening and assessment tools, prevention and intervention techniques, and local resources.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in relationship-based professional development, technical assistance practices, and adult learning methods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with diverse and culturally unique populations.
  • Proficient in use of Zoom, Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and other computer functions.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication including correspondence, reports, reflective supervision, etc.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage time, complete assignments, and meet deadlines in a shared office space and out of the office or via tele-commuting.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a constantly changing environment that adjusts to meet organizational and community needs.
  • Demonstrated experience working as a member of a team.

Pay: $58,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
