US AmeriCorps is Hiring a Community Relations Specialist Near Vicksburg, MS

Duties

The Community Relations Specialist is the Region's point person for recruitment and outreach efforts for AmeriCorps NCCC. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Identifies recruitment and outreach opportunities and executes efforts to attract new NCCC Corps members, as well as community service project sponsors.
  • Develops regional recruitment plans based on established organization-wide goals.
  • Designs and delivers presentations at on-site events to promote the NCCC mission and attract/recruit new Corps members. Facilitates speaking engagements and other community relations opportunities to market the program.
  • Utilizing social, print, and electronic media publicizes success stories and other mission related information to expand awareness about national service projects.
  • Fosters efforts to increase alumni participation in program activities, projects, events and initiatives.
  • Coordinates the work of, and provides training to, team member liaisons for media and recruitment.
  • Develops and facilitates training to aid the successful implementation of media outreach, member recruitment, and other marketing and outreach efforts with members, team leaders and staff.
  • Develops and manages the production of newsletters and Facebook content to increase program awareness.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (paid, unpaid, or volunteer work) comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the upper range of the NY-02 pay band, which would be at, or equivalent to, the GS-09 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience must include all of the following:
1) Planning and conducting marketing and outreach activities to publicize program initiatives and develop partnerships;
2) Experience working with social, print, and electronic media; and
3) Public speaking experience, e.g., making presentations to audiences of 20 or more.

Education

If you are qualifying based on education alone, you must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or LL.M., if related, leading to such a degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work. You must submit an unofficial copy of your college transcript. You must submit evidence that any education completed in a foreign institution is equivalent to U.S. educational standards and that you have the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Failure to provide this material or evidence will result in your receiving no further consideration. Documentation required to validate qualifications must be received by the closing date of this announcement.

This Term Appointment will initially be for a three-year period, but may be extended for a total of five years. Should the need arise, this position may be made permanent without further competition.

As an employee on a Term Appointment, you will not acquire competitive status and you will not be covered by the agency's Interchange Agreement with the Office of Personnel Management, which allows for noncompetitive transfer from AmeriCorps (formerly CNCS) to other agencies in the competitive service of the federal government.
