US National Endowment for the Humanities is Hiring a Program Specialist Near Washington, DC

Duties

  • Develops, evaluates, approves, and promotes educational content in EDSITEment's secondary subject area of English Language Arts; assumes increased responsibilities for the project's primary subject areas, history and social studies; and oversees the topical areas of arts and culture, as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains a network of K-12 educators and curriculum developers; advises vendors and curriculum writers, as well as teacher and scholar reviewers, on the agency's mission and the criteria for developing educational content.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with cultural, educational, and other institutions and organizations that support humanities programs.
  • Invites and enhances collaborative opportunities for EDSITEment within the division, and works with supervisory and program staff to achieve the successful integration of project goals into the work of the division.
  • Coordinates with other NEH divisions and offices in order to collect, develop, and promote relevant agency-funded projects on the EDSITEment website.
  • Identifies new users for the EDSITEment website, and assists in identifying new sources of content for the site.
  • Creates strategies for effective project promotion; writes regular promotional pieces for the EDSITEment website, and social media platforms, highlighting EDSITEment and agency initiatives.
  • Performs ongoing evaluation and assessment of all educational resources for the EDSITEment project.
  • Monitors the general health of the website, providing for appropriate oversight over all back end content upload, from final editing to tagging and 508 Compliance.
  • Uses expertise in K-12 classroom and digital education to assess the feasibility of new Internet-based tools for students and provides extensive feedback in the review and testing phase of new tools and elements proposed for the EDSITEment website.
  • Coordinates project website duties among content providers and reviewers, consulting with relevant NEH staff, as needed.
  • Contributes to the development of guidelines for the EDSITEment project, and cooperates in developing long-range planning and policy development and more effective administrative procedures for the project.
  • Writes and publishes descriptive or analytic humanities work for the EDSITEment website.
  • Creates presentations, summaries, etc., which include complex technical information for key officials and stakeholders
  • Provide status reports on assigned projects.
  • Cultivate relationships and associations with potential partners to ensure program success.Presents formal briefings before audiences on topics related to the humanities.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
At the GS-11 level Qualified candidates must possess:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level or equivalent experience.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: Experience teaching in the humanities at the pre-collegiate level; evaluating humanities curriculum, working with K-12 humanities teachers and/or administrators; and writing, proofreading and editing web-based educational content.
At the GS-12 level Qualified candidates must possess:1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level or equivalent experience.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, for example: Experience teaching in the humanities at the pre-collegiate level; developing and/or evaluating humanities curriculum, working with K-12 humanities teachers and/or administrators; and developing, writing, proofreading, and editing web-based educational content.

Education

A Master's degree (or beyond) in a discipline of the humanities or Library and Information Science is required (a Ph.D. is preferred).

How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
