PART-TIME GROUNDSKEEPER AND LANDSCAPER

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Groundskeeper to join our team and maintain our grounds' overall appearance and functionality. As a Groundskeeper, you will perform various landscaping and maintenance tasks to ensure our outdoor spaces are clean, attractive, and safe. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Landscaping Maintenance: Perform routine landscaping tasks such as mowing, edging, trimming, and watering lawns, shrubs, and flower beds to maintain a neat and visually appealing appearance.
  • Planting and Cultivating: Assist in planting and cultivating various plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs according to seasonal requirements.
  • Pest and Weed Control: Monitor and control pests, insects, and weeds using safe and appropriate methods, ensuring the health and vitality of plants and lawns.
  • Irrigation System Maintenance: Maintain and repair irrigation systems to ensure proper ground watering and distribution.
  • Trash and Debris Removal: Regularly collect and dispose of trash, leaves, and other debris from the grounds to maintain cleanliness.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, inspect, and maintain grounds
  • Keep tools and equipment and report malfunctions or repair needs to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Pathway and Parking Lot Maintenance: Sweep and maintain pathways, sidewalks, parking lots, and other outdoor areas, ensuring they are free from hazards and debris.
  • Seasonal Tasks: Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal, leaf raking, and salting pathways as required.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations, using personal protective equipment when necessary and reporting any safety hazards to the supervisor.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on various tasks, providing regular updates to the supervisor.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in landscaping or grounds
  • keeping, preferably in a commercial or institutional setting.
  • Strong knowledge of landscaping practices, plant care, and grounds maintenance techniques.
  • Familiarity with operating and maintaining grounds
  • keeping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and irrigation systems.
  • Ability to identify and address common pest and weed issues effectively and safely.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform strenuous outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and appearance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of safety protocols and ability to follow established guidelines.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate grounds
  • keeping vehicles as required.

Other Requirements

This position has the following special requirements:

  • Walking and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and buildings.
  • Carrying and lifting supplies and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds to waist height.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching to store & retrieve supplies, cleaning high & low areas, behind exhibits, and maneuvering equipment.
  • Sight, wrist movements, feeling to inspect areas for cleanliness and to use cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Talking and Hearing to communicate with supervisor(s), guests, and employees in person.
