US Supreme Court of the United States is Hiring a Collections Assistant Near Washington, DC

Duties

The Collections Assistant provides support to all day-to-day operations of the Collections Management department as well as digital asset management assistance to the Photography department. Duties include object identification and cataloguing, museum collections database entry, object handling, processing digital assets, and other museum collections activities. In addition, the Collections Assistant supports other functions of the Curator's Office and must be a highly organized problem solver with the ability to balance multiple tasks. The position requires tact and diplomacy.
Reporting to the Assistant Curator of Fine and Decorative Arts, the Collections Assistant works closely with the Assistant Curator of Graphic Arts, the Court Photographer, and the Photography Assistant. This position will complete training on Visitor Services tour procedures and may provide administrative support to the Deputy Curator or Curator on special projects as assigned. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required during special Court events.

Qualifications

Understanding of, and experience with, collections management and/or digital asset management software highly desirable. One to three years of work experience coordinating projects in a curatorial, museum, or similar setting required. Hands-on experience with historic museum collections; cataloguing experience with TMS Collections or equivalent Collections Management software experience preferred. Understanding of, and experience with, Digital Asset Management software; basic skill with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Lightroom, InDesign, etc.); proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word and Excel; and skill in historical research and writing required. Self-motivated individual with the ability to take initiative to meet project deadlines; ability to be a positive contributor while working independently and as part of a team; efficient, well-organized communicator with excellent interpersonal skills; highly organized and detail oriented; ability to effectively multitask; flexibility to adapt to a changing work environment; confident public speaker who is professional and approachable; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Professional demeanor and discretion required. Willingness to work some weekends and evenings, and adjust hours as required.

Education

A Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, American History, Public History, or relevant subject area required; Master's Degree in Museum Studies, American History, Public History, or related field preferred.
