US Treasury, Departmental Offices is Hiring a Security Specialist Near Washington, DC

Duties

Pursuant to 50 USC 3024 (v), and with concurrence and consultation with the Director of National Intelligence and the Director of the Office of Personnel Management, this position is being established in the excepted service as an element of the Intelligence Community within the Department of the Treasury.
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Review, evaluate and adjudicate personnel security investigations conducted by OPM and other investigative department agencies.
  • Document findings make security recommendations or determinations, and formulate written case disposition recommendations for various actions, including approval or denial of employment suitability or retention in sensitive positions and the granting, denying, suspending, or revoking of security clearances.
  • As a member of a team, assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of policies and procedures for handling and safeguarding, and marking classified material in the Department of the Treasury.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
  • Analyzing and applying laws, principles, concepts, policies, practices or regulations governing personnel, physical security, and/or information security in order to review, analyze, and resolve security problems; AND
  • Developing and preparing explanations of facts to express recommendations; AND
  • Providing guidance to lower level specialists regarding security process; AND
  • Applying practical security principles, concepts and methods in carrying out assignments.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes:
  • Analyzing and applying laws, principles, concepts, policies, practices or regulations governing personnel, physical security, or information security in order to review, analyze, and resolve security problems; AND
  • Developing and preparing explanations of facts to express recommendations; AND
  • Applying practical security principles, concepts and methods in carrying out assignments.
OR EDUCATION:You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.
OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
You may qualify by a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 2 years may be combined with experience. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (54 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
  • Note: If you are qualifying using education and you are within 9 months of graduating you may tentatively qualify. However, you must graduate and/or meet all qualification requirements prior to being appointed to the position.

Education

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • A two-year trial period may be required.

  • Must be eligible for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.

  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
