General Experience and Licensing

  • Experience : Minimum of 12 months verifiable Tractor Trailer experience within the past 3 years.
  • Exceptions : Experience in logging, oilfields, and farms is not counted.
  • CDL Requirement : Must have a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in the state of residence prior to application.

Trainer-Specific Requirements

  • Experience : Must also have a minimum of 12 months verifiable Tractor Trailer experience within the past 3 years.
  • Training Experience : Training experience counts towards the required experience but does not count towards the Tractor Trailer Driving School (TDS) portion.

Team Driver Requirements

Residency : Both drivers in a team must reside in the same state.

Moving Violations

  • Allowed Violations : One moving violation in a personal vehicle is allowed within the past 3 years.
  • Disallowed Violations : No moving violations in a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) are permitted within the past 3 years.

Serious Offenses and Disqualifications

  • Under the Influence : No instances of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, including refusal to undergo testing.
  • Leaving Accident Scene : No incidents of leaving the scene of an accident.
  • Fatality Causing : No involvement in causing a fatality through negligent operation of a CMV.
  • CDL Status Violations : No driving while the CDL is suspended, revoked, or cancelled.
  • Felony Usage : No use of a vehicle to commit a felony.
  • Railroad Violations : No Railroad-Highway Grade crossing violations.
  • Out of Service Orders : No violations of out of service orders.
  • Lane Change Violations : No improper or erratic lane changes.
