Responsibilities

The Nuclear Technologist Supervisor provides family centered healthcare utilizing a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to deliver state of the art care to all patients by performing imaging procedures in accordance with established professional and departmental standards within Nuclear Medicine and ancillary areas; performs advanced modality procedures in Nuclear Medicine and/or Nuclear Cardiology; supervises employees and responsible of assigned daily activities; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values; adheres to hospital and departmental policies including confidentiality; exhibits an acceptable work ethic as evidenced by regular and prompt attendance, as well as following all timekeeping/ clocking policies; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety and moving equipment/supplies necessary to perform essential function; demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards; assists with clinical training of students; performs a variety of related digital image management tasks as necessary. ie exceptions, annotations; processes computerized image data; performs Nuclear Cardiac imaging and/or Nuclear Medicine examinations; maintains competency by demonstrating a complete working knowledge of all imaging equipment and proper positioning for exams. Adjusts immobilization devices and equipment, with physician guidance when needed, to obtain diagnostic images; responsible for the procurement, preparation, quality control, calculation, identification, documentation, administration, disposal, storage, and safe handling of radiopharmaceuticals and other radioactive materials; prepares and maintains records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing, and disposal activities; operates radiation detection and measurement instrumentation; calibrates instruments and reviews calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction; calculates for correct dosage in dose calibrator, observes patient dosage for treatments under direct supervision of physician; monitors department with survey meter for possible contamination; adheres to all Radiation Safety requirements and maintains knowledge of requirements, medicolegal responsibilities and status governing Nuclear operations, including but not limited to Alabama Department of Public Health, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Radiation Safety Committee, and Joint Commission; performs or assists with the performance of accreditation requirements for the American College of Radiology (ACR) or Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC); educates the patient and uses techniques that minimizes radiation exposure to patient, general public, and health personnel consistent with ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable); reviews orders, checking for special instructions from physicians and consults with physician as needed; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team; completely explains examination procedure to the patient and family, if present; maintains necessary inventory of supplies, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items; maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the department; recognizes emergency situations and initiates code procedures as needed; completes all aspects of a patient’s exam, including ensuring images are available for physician review in a timely manner, charging procedures, radioisotopes, and supplies, and documenting history or additional notes; protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and procedures; maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and/or participating in professional societies. Completes all mandatory educational requirements in a timely mannee; completes all mandatory educational requirements in a timely manner; ensures all records are accurate and complete pertaining to radiopharmaceuticals and equipment; responsible for the department of Nuclear Medicine and adherence to all regulations (NRC, state, federal, ACR); performs independently, with minimal direction from the Technical and Medical Director of Radiology- administrative duties, supervisory duties and imaging duties; provides leadership and supervision of technical staff to ensure production of high quality imaging; orients new employees; monitors timekeeping for employees and makes entries in the timekeeping system for assigned staff; participates in the formal and informal teaching programs and inservice education; assists in administering and establishing employee policy, schedules, work assignments, evaluations, and other personnel related issues; monitors the condition, care, and maintenance of equipment, reporting problems through the appropriate channels and to the Director/Assistant Director; enforces safety regulations, departmental, and hospital policies; monitors the daily patient schedule and is active in making adjustments to improve throughput; investigates problems and makes recommendations for solutions; participates in committees as assigned; recommends and participates in performance improvement plans; participates in Quality Control activities as assigned; may be required to attend Medical Staff meetings or other meetings; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as asssigned and overtime as needed; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an approved course in Radiologic Technology, and five years of experience conducting routine diagnostic procedures, three of which were in advanced modality, as applicable. A bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology may substitute for up to one year of experience in conducting routine diagnostic procedures. Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology is required. Advanced registry is highly preferred for advanced modalities and may be required for certain modalities.
