USAging Overview

USAging is the national association representing and supporting the network of Area Agencies on Aging and advocating for the Title VI Native American Aging Programs. Our members help older adults and people with disabilities throughout the United States live with optimal health, well-being, independence and dignity in their homes and communities.

As the local leaders on aging well at home our members develop, coordinate and deliver a wide range of home and community-based services, including information and referral/assistance, case management, home-delivered and congregate meals, in-home services, caregiver supports, transportation, evidence-based health and wellness programs, long-term care ombudsman programs and more.

USAging is dedicated to supporting the success of our members in supporting the nation’s growing population of older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers through advancing public policy, sparking innovation, strengthening the capacity of our members, raising their visibility and working to drive excellence in the fields of aging and home and community-based services.

Job Summary

This position is a key player in the success of the transportation team and will help increase the capacity of USAging to provide technical assistance, resources and up-to-date information on critical issues in the development, delivery and evaluation of accessible community transportation addressing the needs of older adults and people with disabilities, including: the development and operation of both human services transportation and public transit; transportation funding options; innovative approaches and alternative modes of delivery; the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act to transportation services; transportation technologies that enhance service delivery; and the role of Area Agencies on Aging in transportation design, delivery and advocacy.

Job Title: Program Manager

Reports to: Director, Transportation

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of grant selection, including oversight and reporting, track data and develop communications and reports on grants.
  • Research and develop knowledge on current program practices, as well as innovative and cutting-edge approaches in accessible transportation.
  • Draft new materials, such as best practices, information briefs, social media blogs and articles, case studies and reports.
  • Design, plan and present on-line courses, workshops, webinars and other educational sessions.
  • Help to expand our network of stakeholders and community partners.
  • Assist with, attends and presents at conferences and special events, including USAging’s Annual Conference and Tradeshow, by contributing to the development of marketing materials, staffing exhibit booths, disseminating materials, planning educational sessions and making presentations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in the human services/aging or transportation fields preferred and at least 4 years relevant experience
  • Experience in transportation, preferably human services transportation or public transit management and service delivery
  • Program management experience particularly in including programs funded by the Federal Transit Administration (DOT), Older Americans Act, public transit and the range of accessible transportation services targeted to support the mobility of older adults and individuals with disabilities. Experience working in transportation for an Area Agency on Aging or Center for Independent Living is a plus.
  • Excellent networking, public presentation and training delivery skills
  • Ability to analyze information, problem-solve, and communicate appropriately with diverse audiences
  • Self-starter with proven organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and build external relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and follow-through, even in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have an all-hands-on-deck attitude and a willingness to pitch in when needed
  • Passion for USAging’s mission of helping older adults age in place and maintain their health and independence for as long as possible

WORK HOURS AND LOCATION

This full-time position is based in USAging’s Washington, DC, office and the successful candidate must live in the DC area. The successful candidate will also be able to occasionally travel to member conferences and always attend the USAging Annual Conference and Tradeshow each summer for up to six days.

Employees of USAging are required to abide by the organization’s COVID-19 policies. USAging receives federal funding through contracts with the federal government or their contractors. As a result of our status as a federal contractor, USAging is required to ensure that all of our employees are fully vaccinated. As a condition of and to be considered for employment, successful applicants for this position must be, or willing to be, fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the date of hire. (Full vaccination is currently defined as two weeks after both doses of a two-dose vaccine or two weeks since a single-dose vaccine has been administered.)
