USAJOBS is Hiring an Exhibits Specialist (Graphic Designer) Near Washington, DC

DutiesAs The Exhibit Specialist You Will
  • Use multiple techniques in the production of exhibition graphics, permanent collection didactic information, and signage requests.
  • Work closely with PXD graphic designers in the production and installation of exhibition graphics including didactics (text panels, exhibition titles, labels).
  • Collaborate with the Permanent Collection Coordinator, PXD to design, print and manage permanent collection label requests for galleries in the West and East buildings, and the Sculpture Garden.
  • Be responsible for the organization and maintenance of digital label files for the permanent collection and temporary installations.
  • Be responsible for creating and maintaining a graphics budgets related to assigned exhibition or project.
  • Be responsible for the research and development of samples and estimates for production of required exhibition graphics to include: banners, wall graphics and signage.
  • Be responsible for the update of assignments in project management software.
  • Be responsible for the presentation of design concepts to stakeholders.

QualificationsCandidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1010-12. For this position, Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-11 level, designing and physically creating graphics for exhibitions.

  • Graphics - Skill in designing, printing, and installing graphic signage.
  • Production & Project Management: Responsibilities to include project management, production and installation, and digital asset management of multiple projects relating to special exhibitions, permanent collection installations and campus signage.
Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria : Must possess visual acuity sufficient to create accurate, color matched digital output. Must be able to climb a ladder. Must be able to lift and carry 15 pounds. Must be able to work occasional weekend and evening overtime hours.

EducationUndergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.
Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.
ORExperienceSpecialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes work in the appropriate field, e.g., design, modelmaking, art, taxidermy, or restoration.
