Duties
  • Serve as a General Equipment Mechanic using trade skills to independently perform a wide range of general maintenance tasks and major repair.
  • Renovation projects involved in the upkeep of differing types of machinery and equipment which incorporate mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical or electronic operating principles.
  • Fabricate necessary templates, jigs, and other fixtures required for installation or repair of equipment.
  • Perform the full range of work involved in the relocation, installation repair, overhaul, modification, maintenance, servicing, and testing of special purpose high/low pressure compression systems.
  • Inert gas boosters used in direct support of atmospheric test operations and missile firings conducted on the installation.
  • Use and apply a variety of testing and measuring instruments, trade methods, procedures and techniques, special materials and supplies, and standard of special tools and equipment.
  • Perform a combination of troubleshooting, installing, adjusting, repairing, overhaul, modification, preventive maintenance, functional testing, and inspection on the following which are considered typical but not necessarily all inclusive

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires must obtain and maintain a valid State Commercial Driver's license (CDL), in one of the 50 US states or possessions within 6 months of hiring.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have or obtain and maintain the proper endorsements, HAZMAT endorsement and a class A, on your commercial drivers license (CDL) within 6 months of hiring.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) General Equipment Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Install and repair equipment and machinery that incorporates hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical principles of operation; operate and maintain shop equipment. Install and repair frame support foundation for operating machinery and connect hydraulic lines, air hose couplings, etc. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journeyman General Equipment Mechanic who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Perform basic maintenance tasks; follow simple diagrams and drawings which illustrate a supervisor's explanation of a specific work assignment; follow all safety rules to prevent accidents. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts, carries, and handles objects weighing over 50 pounds. Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and climbing for sustained periods of time and working in cramped or awkward positions.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside areas that are adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated and outside in all types of weather where temperature variations of 40 degrees in a day are common and seasonal temperatures range from below freezing to more than 100 degrees. Incumbent is subject to working on cold, damp, or drafty surfaces, and on high structures where there is danger of falls. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily and slippery. The employee is frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machinery. The employee is also exposed to situations that could result in severe bodily harm when pressurizing and testing cylinders. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, and glasses are required. Subject to rotational emergency callback duty and scheduled overtime after normal duty hours and on weekends, holidays, etc., which are compensated by premium pay. Must be certified by the organization Director to perform lifting device testing and inspections.???????
