USAJOBS is Hiring a Medical Records Technician (Coder) Near Center, VA

Duties
  • Assign specific codes to medical records, sequencing and determining codes to accurately reflect the resources and procedures used in the care of the patients.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and third-party insurance requirements in utilizing the International Code of Diseases-10 Clinical Modifications (ICD-10-CM), and Procedure Coding System (PCS) coding books.
  • Perform quantitative analysis and checks medical record for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and interpret documentation in record, ensuring accuracy, internal consistency and correlation of recorded data.
  • Perform utilization review of records to assure diagnosis responsible for the length of stay is appropriately identified and the secondary diagnoses are sequenced properly to assure maximum allocation under the Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) system.
  • Identify and document any incident which may denote a potential compensatory event or questionable breach of quality of care delivered.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position may have a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
QualificationsWho May Apply: US CitizensIn order to qualify, you must meet the education / experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Qualifications For GS-06 LevelSpecialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Interpret diagnostic and procedural phrases from medical records into coded form, using International Classification of Disease-10, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM), and ICD-10-PCS. Ensuring medical records are accurate; utilize hospital automated patient health record, (i.e. MHS GENESIS) to retrieve various reports (such as, laboratory, radiology, and pathology) to process patient complete medical record for coding data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
EducationSome federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
