USAJOBS is Hiring a Senior Sales Counter Attendant Near Washington, DC

DutiesThe incumbent opens and closes the Store; audits the Point of Service (POS) drawer banks and orders/retrieves change from the Library's Credit Union; assists the Store Manager in closing all POS registers; ensures proper drawer fund amount; balances against drawer summary report at close of business; and alerts the Store Manager to any discrepancies resulting in a shortage/overage in cash.
The incumbent performs a weekly safe audit in which all contents of safe are counted and recorded (with another associate present) with documented results sent to the Business Enterprise Division's Finance and Accounting Office.
The incumbent performs work in areas including, but not limited to, determining required replenishment for common, non-recurring and new items, and arrangement of merchandise in order to complement and enhance the overall experience of Library visitors.
The incumbent assists the Store Manager in all aspects of Store business operations and provides continuing onsite assistance to other sales counter staff, answers questions and resolves issues where possible. Acts as supervisor when the Store Manager is unavailable.
The incumbent assists clients in various channels by delivering excellent customer service and offering product knowledge to facilitate sales. The incumbent receives customer complaints and resolves or facilitates resolution, or refers to the Store Manager non-routine issues that are outside the scope of normal guidelines and procedures.
Completes routine and non-routine cash processing transactions in all forms of payments for services, fees, and goods to include processing in-store shipping transactions and telephone orders; process requests for returns, exchanges, and employee discounts; and facilitates book sales at author events in support of Library programs.
The incumbent assists the Store Manager in the annual inventory, performs counts, verifies information and records; identifies discrepancies or requirements; alerts Store Manager to issues such as inventory needs, quantity shortages or other issues; performs assignments in the stock room, including, but not limited to, preparing back stock; bundling large quantities; and pre-counting stock. The incumbent keeps product lines and types in the retail space; monitors turn and inventory levels; and determines quantities and time required for stock replacement. Supports planograms and checklists, coordinating and maintaining appropriate stock levels, by brands, signature products and other in-demand items. Ensures proper placement of new products.
The incumbent checks in merchandise; reconciles packing lists against invoices and verifies incoming stock against stock check sheets; checks for missing tickets; creates new SKUs if necessary; tickets incoming merchandise; stocks sales floor and arranges displays for visual appeal according to current merchandising standards; and ensures that sales floor is adequately stocked at all times.
Performs various other related duties as assigned.
RequirementsConditions of EmploymentThe work requires some physical exertion, such as carrying of light items, long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities to perform restocking of store merchandise. There are no special physical requirements to perform the work.

QualificationsApplicants must have had progressively responsible experience and training sufficient in scope and quality to furnish them with an acceptable level of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position without more than normal supervision.

Additional InformationAlthough it is the Library's policy to afford the maximum pay benefit to employees when setting rates of pay, a new appointee who has had no previous Federal service will generally be paid at step one of the grade.
