Location : This role can be based in USCRI’s offices in Arlington, Virginia; Erie, Pennsylvania; Detroit, Michigan; or Cleveland, Ohio.

Critical to USCRI’s refugee resettlement work are 15 local field offices that provide programming to help welcome, integrate, and build self-sufficiency for newly arrived refugee families.

The Development Associate (DA) for New Field Offices position supports the revenue growth and diversification of resources for the USCRI’s new Field Offices in Denver, Atlanta, Twin Falls, Detroit, and Dallas.

The DA cultivates, stewards, and retains individual and foundation / corporate donors through a moves management process.

The DA is also responsible for cultivating, promoting, and stewarding other types of donors at the Field Office including project / proposal development, grant-writing, and grants management.

The position reports to the Vice President for Strategic Development and works in close coordination with the VP of Refugee Services, Senior Director of Field Offices, and Field Office Directors and USCRI Development headquarters staff.

USCRI has a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policy. All employees must be fully vaccinated to work at any / all locations at USCRI.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the Vice President of Strategic Development and in close consultation with the Vice President of Refugee Services, the Development Associate develops, recommends, and executes a strategy for prospecting, retaining, and growing donor contributions, in alignment with industry best practices, USCRI’s mission and goals, and national / global events and news;
  • Manage and support Advisory Committees comprising community leaders;
  • Engage and build a portfolio of local foundations and the business sector on opportunities to partner and support USCRI;
  • Research and apply for funding opportunities from various sources, including government (federal, state, and local), foundations and corporations;
  • Write, revise and submit funding proposals on behalf of the field office, in collaboration with Finance and Program staff to ensure quality of all proposals;
  • Manage gift processing, including management of monetary and in-kind gift acceptance, and coordinate with Development and Finance staff to ensure timely acknowledgement, proper entry and tracking of gifts, and accuracy of donor records;
  • Maintain and build relationships with major donors in alignment with the USCRI Development Department practices, sufficiently to assure donor loyalty and solicit increased giving;
  • Enhance agency efforts to solicit in-kind donations through volunteers and other community support;
  • Plan, implement and track progress of approved agency events, including outreach, community engagement, and fundraising events;
  • Support marketing and communications activities to promote agency events activities; and
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university;
  • Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in grant writing; project and budget design; and drafting needs assessments and program outcomes.
  • Must have a demonstrated track record of writing successfully funded grant proposals (federal and non-federal) and successfully identifying public and private funding sources;
  • Demonstrated experience in donor engagement and fundraising campaigns, including experience in asking for donations;
  • Comfort with direct donor interaction is essential;
  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate and timely reports;
  • Highly effective communication skills, strong partnership skills;
  • Self-starter with ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines;
  • Excellent writing, editing, and computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat;
  • Experience with development applications and software (e.g., DonorPefect, Stripe, SalesForce, GrantsHub) preferred; and
  • Demonstrated support of USCRI’s values by exhibiting respect for others, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Satisfactory completion of USCRI’s Orientation and Training;
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.

  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands;
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying; and
  • Quantitative / mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
