USDA Forest Service is Hiring an Engineering Equipment Operator Leader. Near Alturas, CA

Duties
  • Leads work activities for other construction crew members including day-to-day work assignments, provide on-the-job-training, assures Agency safety guidelines are followed, and resolution of human resource issues.
  • Performs project management activities for road maintenance and repair including site survey, material estimating, material ordering and delivery, and consultation with design engineers.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs and adjustments on automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment.
  • Adjusts the heavy equipment attachments for proper level, angle, or depth, according to the work to be done and the type of equipment used.
  • Uses blue prints, specifications, diagrams or work orders associated with road maintenance or earth moving to produce work meeting such specifications.
  • Operates a dump truck and semi-truck with trailer with maximum gross vehicle weight of 80,000 lbs. to 120,000 lbs. to haul specialized heavy equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance on heavy equipment, heavy trucks, and tractors/trailers such as but not limited to greasing, adding fluids and changing cutting edges/wear surfaces.
  • Operates front-end loaders, bulldozers or excavators on steep slopes, rocky or soft ground or other surfaces with similar rough features to push, pull, pile, excavate, backfill, grade or load earth to specifications.
  • Routinely operates heavy trucks and vehicles with manual transmissions, dual transmissions and multiple gear boxes.
  • Operate road graders on steep and rough terrain to level and grade earth, including roads, to exact specifications.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

Additional Requirements (Screen-out):
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Must possess and maintain a valid class A CDL as a condition of employment. Please attach proof of CDL with application.
  • Drug Testing - This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program. Applicants must acknowledge this requirement to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use unless they currently occupy a TDP under the DOT/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substances Testing Program.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.
