UT Dallas is Hiring a Sport coordinator Near Richardson, TX

The Department of University Recreation (UREC) at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks a self-motivated and enthusiastic, professional to join our dynamic team of recreational leaders.

The coordinator will develop, organize, and direct all aspects of a comprehensive Fitness program with an emphasis on a safe, well-maintained, and adequately staffed environment.

This position will provide a comprehensive array of accessible classes, educational workshops, and specialty programming to engage students and members of the university community of all abilities and fitness levels.

Set and achieve standards of program delivery that assure the highest quality programs.

Reports to the Associate Director of Programs. Day-to-day functions are accomplished with minimal guidance or supervision in accordance with established policies and directives.

Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, acquires and maintains certifications, develops professional contacts with colleagues, attends professional development courses.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in relevant field; experience in developing and operating a fitness program; certification in CPR & First Aid;

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Minimum qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation Management, or related field and two years of experience, OR an equivalent number of years of related experience.
  • Certified Group Fitness Instructor (ACE, AFAA, ACSM, and / or recognized national governing body), and certified in at least two of the following formats : mind / body (i.

e., yoga, barre, Pilates) or another specialty (cycling, kickboxing, TRX, other).

  • Certified Personal Trainer (ACSM PT, ACE, NSCA CSCS).
  • Certified in FA / CPR / AED or the ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Preferred qualifications :

  • Master's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation Management, Student Affairs, or related field and a minimum of three years of experience, preferred five years of directly related fitness experience within a collegiate recreation program.
  • One or more of the following certifications : ACSM HFI, ACSM, ACE or NSCA CSCS, and AFAA Group Fitness Instructor or other group fitness certification.
  • CPR / AED / First Aid Instructor Certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire).

Knowledge, skills, and abilities :

  • Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and positively with a wide range of constituencies.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective, working relationships. Exceptional customer service orientation is essential.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems as well as devise solutions.

Must also be able to work independently as well as to work collaboratively.

Candidate must possess strong organizational, planning and time management skills with the ability to manage concurrent projects and handle multiple priorities at once.

Must also have a strong focus on attention to detail. Strong project management skills are essential.

  • Experience with Microsoft 365.
  • Collaborate with nationally accredited fitness certifying organizations to host workshops and certification programs.
  • Serve on designated Student Affairs and University committees.
  • Initiate collaborations with campus partners within Student Affairs and academic units to develop and implement programs and events that contribute to student success and foster relationships with interested groups, and special events.
  • Serve as the on-call manager on duty.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor short and long-range planning for fitness programs, including structured training programs for personal trainers and fitness instructors including monthly training clinics, certifications and continuing education, and evaluations.
  • Develop and implement University's group fitness program including teaching and serving as a substitute instructor as needed for fitness classes and special events.
  • Personnel management responsibilities include the training, development, and daily supervision of approximately 20-30 staff, encompassing fitness instructors and personal trainers.
  • Develop clear and measurable systems to track and report progress.
  • Responsible for equipment purchasing and annual inventory compilation. Ensure that all equipment is in working order and usable before the start of each semester.
  • Develop and implement programmatic risk management protocols and safety audits.
  • Collect and report monthly participation records.
  • Serve as UREC campus wellness contact. Work collaboratively with other University departments, such as the Student Wellness Center, Student Health Center, Residential Life, Center for Students in Recovery, and the Campus Wellness Committee to implement effective outreach programs to students and employees.
  • Collaborate with nationally accredited fitness / wellness certifying organizations to host workshops and certification programs.
  • Serve on designated Student Affairs and University committees.
  • Serve as the on-call manager on duty.
  • Some nights and weekends are required.

Additional Information

During certain times of year, this position requires routine evening and / or weekend supervision due to the nature of program activities.

Remote Work Notice :

Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
