Job Description Job Summary: Directs, coordinates, supervises, and participates in all aspects of the daily operation of the Barshop Institute metabolic research core facility. Job Duties:
Oversees daily Barshop Institute mass spectrometry core facility operations, development, operation and maintenance of specialized equipment resident in the research core facility, performance of technical procedures requiring significant technical skills and/or specialized training.
Trains clients in the use of the technologies and instruments resident in the core facility; as well as, consulting with clients on design and specimen preparation techniques for experiments involving research core activities.
Responsible for collecting and compiling of data on core usage for the purpose of reporting on core activities to university and/or government agencies.
Oversees general lab operation, including maintaining lab records in compliance with university regulations.
Will perform research services using multiple technologies.
Manages projects conducted in the core facility, including designing and scheduling experiments, analyzing results and preparing research reports for clients.
Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training employees; setting and adjusting pay rates and hours of work; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency, handling complaints/grievances and disciplining when necessary.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education: Masters degree with major coursework in the field of assignment is preferred. 10 plus years related experience in lieu of Master's Degree. Experience: Five (5) years of laboratory experience related to core activities is required. Preferred: Experience in small molecule, stable isotope, and/or metabolomics analyses. Experience in GCMS, IRMS, and/or LCMS. Supervisory Requirements: Has the authority to direct the work of others, hire or fire employees, or provide recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of other employee.
