Job Summary

UT Southwestern is hiring a WOCN Registered Nurse (RN) assistant manager for our Wound Ostomy team. As the assistant manager for our Ostomy team, you will be able to support our dynamic leadership team and work collaboratively with a wide range of departments at Clements University Hospital and Zale Lipshy Pavilion. We are committed to providing exceptional treatments for our diverse patients with complex and nonhealing wounds and a large new ostomate patient population. This leadership role allows you to supervise our large wound ostomy team and grow as a nurse leader.

Job Duties

* Manage staff to meet established productivity target. Review staffing/nursing assignments and revise to meet specific needs of the patients on a shift-by-shift basis. Make ongoing changes to staffing as determined by fluctuations in census and patient acuity, to assure safe delivery of care.

* Directly supervises and evaluates the provision of patient care. Utilize opportunities to teach and mentor other nursing and ancillary personnel. Assure financial stewardship. Performs time keeping and scheduling. Performs chart audits.

* Role models pro-active problem solving by collaborating with staff to ensure effective resolution of identified issues. Utilize chain of command for unresolved or escalating issues. Advocate for patients and staff to provide for safe delivery of care and/or a safe environment of care.

* Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to provide coverage during shifts when staffing crisis/shortage occurs. Maintain direct care clinical competency appropriate for patient population served.

* Provide timely, confidential coaching and/or counseling of nursing personnel and communicates with Unit Manager and Assistant Managers as appropriate. Promote and enthusiastically support professional growth of staff by providing equal opportunities for participation in unit-based activities, patient care/unit decisions, hospital committees, and/or continuing education. Responsible for maintaining /improving/implementing plans for employee engagement scores.

* Assure first person reporting of events through the event reporting system. Ensure all staff are competent in entering event reports and serves as a resource. Investigate facts of event reports. Facilitate timely receipt of reports for follow-up by the Unit Manager Notifies Nurse Manager/Manager of Clinical Safety immediately of high-risk situations.

* Actively participate in routine and special patient care conferences, staff meetings, special projects and the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement activities. Communicate data and solicit input from staff regarding performance and quality improvement i.e. patient safety, infection control. Actively participates on hospital work groups.

* Adhere and facilitate adherence by other personnel to all policies and procedures, ANA Code of Ethics, TJC standards, and nationally recognized standards of nursing practice.

Education and Experience

* WOCN Certification required

* BSN required

* BLS (American Heart Association) required

* Three years of RN experience in an Acute inpatient program, preferred

* TX BON or Compact State RN License required
