The Department of Biophysics at UT Southwestern seeks to discover the structural and energetic properties of molecules and their assemblies, and to relate these properties to biomedical and cellular function. Biophysicists study biological organization and dynamics over a wide range of length and time scales: from angstroms to microns from picoseconds to hours (and ultimately to evolutionary time).
The Jaqaman Lab is hiring a Research Technician II. We are a group of physicists, biophysicists, cell biologists, and “computationalists” interested in the spatiotemporal organization of cell surface receptors, the mechanisms underlying it, and its consequences for cell signaling. We utilize light microscopy, particularly single-molecule and super-resolution imaging, to monitor molecular behavior in its native cellular environment, and we develop computer vision and machine learning approaches to quantitate the observed behavior and gain insight beyond what the eye can see.
The successful candidate will participate in a collaborative project between the Jaqaman and Shahmoradian labs, focused on computational image and quantitative data analysis to study tau protein dynamics, clustering and aggregate formation in live cells. Additionally, they will participate in research in the Jaqaman lab focused on the dynamic organization of cell surface receptors. The successful candidate will both develop software and utilize existing software in the Jaqaman lab to conduct these studies, which are expected to synergize with each other.
