UW Health SwedishAmerican is Hiring a HVAC/Steamfitter Near Rockford, IL

POSITION SUMMARY: The nature of the services provided by this position may affect UW Health Patients, Visitors, Employees, and other departments. A wide variety of both internal and external relationships are involved in carrying out the duties of this position.
The HVAC/Pipefitter performs mechanical maintenance, intermediate HVAC, and general repair work at all UW Health locations. This position will be highly customer focused, responsive, and extremely reliable. Hospital and Clinic operations requires quick response to system and equipment failures.
Minimum:EDUCATION/TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred:Two (2) year technical diploma
Minimum:LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: NFPA 99 6040 Certification (within 6 months of hire)
Preferred:Building Operators Certification (BOMA / ASHRAE / ASHE / OTHER)
EPA Refrigerant Certification
EXPERIENCE:Minimum:Four (4) year mechanical maintenance experience or formal training
Preferred:Four (4) year mechanical maintenance experience or formal training in a healthcare setting
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Familiarity with the operation of maintenance related tools and equipment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Possession of good customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC controls and control systems.
  • Working knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Knowledge of air balancing requirements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:This position serves as point of contact for all facility locations and departments that require service. The incumbent may coordinate the work of and provide guidance and/or direction to Maintenance Mechanics, Maintenance Technicians, or contractors. Work is performed under limited supervision.
Responsibilities:
  • Act as a contact for any building issues which include, but are not limited to climate control, odors, smoke, spills, damage, emergencies and repair.
  • Monitor contractor performance and work closely with outside vendors, contractor and trades to ensure work is completed safely, and according to specs.
  • Maintain the building, and immediately responding to building emergencies.
  • Assist with project documentation, project description, and assign tasks out to proper Trade or contractor, with risk assessments.
  • Guide and/or assist work being performed by other Maintenance & Engineering Services (MES) staff.
  • Resolve customer issues and complaints or manage them up to MES Supervisors
  • Update department management on building operations status and recurring problems that may require additional action.
  • Recommend need for trades worker services, coordinate tasks with trades lead worker, and assist with completion.
  • Review and prioritize new work orders, review completed work order tasks, and finish out completed work orders.
  • Operate as a contact for managers and hospital staff in worked areas.
  • Recommend use of contracted labor, when applicable.
  • Procurement of repair parts for daily operations and utilities
  • May be included in the 24/7 emergency call back rotation.
Maintenance Of Existing HVAC Systems:
  • Repair, replace, adjust and calibrate electronic, electric, digital and pneumatic controls for HVAC fans, steam and hot water heating systems, chillers and chilled water systems, pumps, cooling towers and domestic water systems.
  • Engage in the preventive maintenance program for building utilities.
  • Order and maintain adequate supplies for the preventive maintenance program.
  • Test water and adjust chemical levels for heating, cooling systems.
Emergency Generators:
  • Operational testing of the emergency generators as required by regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain repair, maintenance, and test records for generators at various UW Health sites when assigned.
  • Cross-train other team members on proper maintenance and testing procedures.
  • Assemble equipment manuals, drawings, and instructions for each control system.
Domestic Water And Plumbing Systems:
  • Test water systems for correct chemical levels. Adjust as required, to maintain the proper levels.
  • Maintain records for analysis by supervisors and outside agencies.
  • Train and educate other MES members on testing and adjustments.
  • Own and assist accomplishing preventive, corrective and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Assemble equipment manuals, drawings, and instructions for each control system.
Medical Air And Vacuum Systems:
  • Engage in and own preventive, corrective and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Cross-train other certified MES members on proper testing and adjustment.
  • Assemble equipment manuals, drawings, and instructions for each control system.
Reporting And Recommendations:
  • Make recommendations, including estimated costs, based on savings, or extending equipment life or both after investigating equipment operations.
  • Provide technical information and data for specific parts to be purchased. Order and maintain an inventory of replacement parts to ensure continuous operation of equipment.
  • Recommend preventive maintenance techniques, methods, and schedules for both general building and HVAC systems.
Related Maintenance Responsibilities:
  • Work with all other team members to ensure complete support of the Maintenance & Engineering Services mission.
  • Perform maintenance on other mechanical and facility items of a similar kind and level as required by the supervisor.
Perform other assigned duties as necessary, to include afterhours work - as required to maintain patient care and normal Clinic operations.
