V2X is growing! V2X is looking for a Senior Manager, General Engineering to join our team!
V2X, located in Indianapolis, IN is searching for an energetic and highly motivated candidate to lead a project engineering section. The Project Engineering Section Manager is responsible for leading a team of approximately 5-10 project engineers in the planning, development, and execution of technical projects assigned to the section. Candidates must exhibit a high degree of initiative and sound judgment. It is essential the individual be capable of adapting to changing conditions and work cooperatively in a team environment.
The Project Engineering Section Manager will be expected to; coordinate and staff section resources, monitor section performance, implement and maintain management systems, solve problems, guide career and performance development of the section, mentor section members, support front end of the business activities, and lead functional level roadmaps. In addition, the section manager will be responsible for directly managing technical projects.
The Project Engineering Section Manager ensures the technical management processes of all technical projects assigned to his/her section are implemented and achieved to the level of rigor required by the project. The technical management processes are used to;
  • establish and perform technical plans for the project,
  • manage information across the technical team,
  • assess technical progress against the plans for the system, products or services,
  • control technical tasks through to completion,
  • aid in the decision-making process.
The discipline of project engineering requires in-depth technical knowledge of the project deliverables to ensure that plans and performance criteria are adequate for project success. Project engineers typically have a background working in an engineering discipline prior to becoming a project engineer. Responsibilities for this role are divided into three categories detailed below, Project Management, Section Management, and Employee Management.
Project Management
  • Ensure successful execution of the project engineering discipline's performance for all projects supported within the section.
  • Responsible for overall quality of engineering work products generated by section members, ensuring they are generated and documented utilizing standard design principles and engineering practices.
  • Maintains constant and regular engagement for all supported projects to ensure the team performance meets or exceeds the project plans.
  • In-depth understanding of the engineering lifecycle, including the ability to lead projects using both predictive (waterfall) and adaptive development frameworks.
  • Experience driving new business growth through proactive engagement to identify on-contract growth, lead white paper development, engineering estimations, and proposal responses.
  • Accurate scope and cost estimation for project Estimates at Complete (EAC).
  • Monitors team performance and implements corrective actions to meet project commitments
  • Identifies issues early, proactively communications across the project, and drives resolution of issues by leading the issue resolution plans.
Section Management
  • Establish and execute a section strategy aligned with the department’s vision and goals.
  • Proactively communicates across the section with an established cadence to communicate clear priorities and organization updates.
  • Able to communicate effectively to large groups and senior leaders.
  • Facilitates and encourages mentoring and knowledge dissemination across the organization.
  • Maintains strong succession planning for key positions across projects.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing staffing and hiring/development plans aligned to roadmaps and projected needs.
  • Drives collaboration with the other functions and project leads throughout execution.
  • Experience creating/reviewing functional estimates to support proposals.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and management skills.
Employee Management
  • Responsible for holding and documenting performance and career development discussions to improve and accelerate employee performance.
  • Proven experience holding crucial/difficult conversations including addressing performance issues to improve employee performance.
Education Requirements
  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) from and accredited college and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience.
