Job Summary:

Vail Resorts seeks an experienced and savvy labor relations professional to join our L&E Legal Team as Director of Labor Relations. The L&E teams acts as strategic partners to all divisions of the Company on labor and employment issues, with a mission to serve the employee Experience of a Lifetime and empower the business by providing impactful legal advice, equitable investigations, and collaborative leadership. With this goal in mind, this role requires an agile, driven, and flexible problem solver, who can successfully drive the Company’s labor relations strategies, projects, and initiatives.

Job Specifications:

  • Outlet: Corporate - Broomfield, CO
  • The budgeted range starts at $175,000 - $205,000 annual bonus equity. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience
  • Shift & Schedule Availability: Full Time, Year Round
  • Other Specifics: Hybrid

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead labor-related programs, including campaigns, elections, collective bargaining, training, contract oversight, grievances/ULPs, workforce continuity, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Provide day-to-day advice to legal, human resources, and business teams on broad range of labor activities, including issue spotting, strategy, planning, compliance, and project execution.
  • Investigate and resolve labor-related grievances and charges, and consult with the internal investigations team in connection with investigations involving union employees.
  • Develop and drive strategic proactive labor programs aimed to improve the employee experience, and drive resource efficiency through scalable processes.
  • Train internal teams on traditional labor, union, and collective bargaining issues.
  • Manage outside counsel on labor issues, including grievances, arbitrations, and other legal proceedings.
  • Develop strong business acumen, stay abreast of ski industry trends and news, and grow industry relationships and expertise to influence positive change throughout Vail Resorts. 
  • Adhere to, support, and promote the Mission, Values, standards, and goals of the Company and Team.
  • Assist with and advise on additional employment law issues as needed.
  • Other duties as necessary and assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor, with at least one active state bar admission (other qualifications, e.g., master’s degree, will be considered with extensive labor experience and proven track record for all Job Responsibilities)
  • Minimum 7 years of traditional labor relations experience, preferably in an in-house/corporate setting.
  • Demonstrated labor relations leadership, including organizing, campaigns, elections, at-the-table bargaining, compliance, oversight, investigations, and NLRA/NLRB regulations and procedures.
  • Impeccable communication skills, high emotional intelligence, and a driven service mindset.
  • Creative problem solver with strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly under high pressure, meet deadlines, successfully multi-task, and to effectively handle dynamic situations with flexibility, patience, positivity, and tact.
  • High integrity and capability of building trust and credibility quickly with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Capacity to anticipate problems and key issues, and to exercise sound judgment in making reasonable decisions and appropriately escalating issues as necessary. 
  • Ability to succeed working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Commitment to professional growth, enthusiasm, humility, humor, and receptivity to feedback culture.

Preferred

  • Experience working with major corporations, including in the travel and entertainment industry.
  • Experience working for NLRB.
  • Employment law experience.
  • Leadership experience.

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $175,000 - $205,000 annual bonus equity. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment for Broomfield-based roles where employees must live within 50 miles of the Broomfield office and work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.
