Responsibilities
  • Oversee project construction activities from design through turnover of the project to the client. Reviews design for constructability. Develops construction strategy, project construction schedule, and a site development plan. Assists in the selection of contractors qualified to perform the project scope. This individual interfaces with client representatives, contractors and project engineers / managers within the Valdes organization. Located at the job site as required for exchange of information.
Responsibilities include the following:
  • Provide direct interface with contractors leads on project work
  • Organizes a field construction team to manage the general contractor and/or prime construction contractors throughout the course of the project
  • Accountable to the client for schedule, cost, safety, and quality of work for the project
  • Provide field management for client construction activities
  • Coordinate construction activities for all contractors
  • Responsible for the timely receipt of all client supplied equipment and materials
  • Field enforcement of Regulatory and client safety requirements
  • Communicate to team members and client on work plans
  • Participate in review, approval and audit of construction schedules. Monitor Contractor schedule performance
  • Verify field conditions, constructability of designs, and assist in resolving problems during field construction
  • Review construction contractor proposals
  • Review invoices for assigned contractors
  • Manage construction budgets
  • Conduct meetings with client and contractors
  • Ensure that contractors are conducting safety meetings/reviews and audits
  • Review all change orders
  • Monitor contractor quality performance per client guidelines
  • Ensure that client specifications and requirements are met
  • Provides status reports to the client including status of schedule, construction budget and activities
  • All other duties as assigned by the client, manager or management
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Construction Management or one of the Engineering Disciplines
  • Experience: 10 years of construction management experience and 5 Years supervisory experience desired. Knowledge of chemical manufacturing and/or refining industry and regulatory standards.
Technical Competencies:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and possesses the ability to communicate complicated issues in a simple manner
  • Strong knowledge of construction management, all engineering disciplines, plant operations
  • Leadership skills such as conflict resolution, risk evaluation, mentoring and steadiness
  • Ability to properly delegate and follow up with team to assure project is completed to client satisfaction on schedule and on budget
  • Creativeness in providing new solutions to problems
Competencies and People Skill Sets
  • Basic knowledge of 2D and 3D AutoCAD software
  • Strong Microsoft Office experience and knowledge of planning or scheduling software
  • Knowledge of multi-discipline project design execution and construction sequence
  • Responsible for Quality Control and possesses an eye for detail
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office software, Microsoft Project and Primavera are pluses
  • Professional registration desired

  • 5 years’ experience supervising staff and managing projects from inception to completion including evaluating scope of work and assigning responsibilities
  • Able to work alone or on a team in different level positions. Not afraid to take charge, but will also cooperate and coordinate with others at their level that may have more authority over the work at hand
  • Possesses a knack for the ability to network and connect with peers, subordinates, supervisors and others within the industry
  • Conscientious, enthusiastic and extroverted personality, able to initiate and follow through on assignments with little coaching
  • Personable and possesses the ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with clients, subordinates and co-workers at all levels
  • Ability to handle difficult individuals, remain calm when employees or clients are confrontational and effectively manage and resolve conflicts in a professional manner
  • Demonstrate effective work relationships with all project and engineering personnel
  • Represents the highest standard of professional conduct with other groups, department members and clients
  • Extroverted personality, ability to supervise and lead staff offering coaching and oversight resulting in quality work product
Organizational Skills:
  • Excellent organizational skills and able to prioritize multiple tasks without becoming overwhelmed
  • Able to schedule and balance their time effectively, multi-task and possesses an internal locus of control
  • Able to commit to and meet project deadlines, and driven to provide outstanding service to both external and internal customers
  • Strong understanding of construction management, project management and discipline work flow and how all departments work together to complete projects
  • Ability to set and track goals
  • Takes ownership of work thru project completion
  • Must keep work area and job site neat, clean and organized
  • Office or on-site trailer environment; must be able to perform frequent repetitive tasks, and be able to sit at and operate a computer for 60% of the day. Must be able to perform associated work duties at on-site locations. Duties will include the ability to push/pull, lift approximately 20-50 lbs., and climb stairs and vertical ladders. Must be steady on their feet and able to stand or walk for extended periods while on the construction site. Climbing and use of fall protection is an essential function of the job. Out of town travel may be required based on the projects assigned. Must be available evening and weekends for emergency calls.
