Full-time Description We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Speech Therapist & Special Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing speech therapy and special education services to students with communication and learning disabilities. Job Summary: The Speech Therapist & Special Education Teacher demonstrates a passion for ministering to children through teaching while interacting with the other support staff members and general education teachers. This position provides academic and emotional support, as well as study skills and executive functioning skills such as planning, organization, and time-management. Plan and implement instruction based upon student Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and curriculum requirements as assigned
Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers who have resource students in their classes about teaching, learning, behavior, and grading
Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders
Develop individualized treatment plans to improve communication and swallowing abilities and coordinating with the VINE Department as appropriate
Provide therapy to students who have speech and language disorders: including articulation, fluency, voice, and receptive and expressive language disorders
Assist students with intervention needs or those with other specific learning needs
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, educators, and family members to provide comprehensive care
Use various techniques and tools to help students improve their communication skills, such as exercises, communication devices, and language games
Keep detailed records of student progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
Educate and counsel students and their families on communication strategies and techniques
Communicate as needed with families who have students enrolled in VINE resource support and students enrolled in the Speech program
Utilize the services of the assigned aide to maximize individualized services to students
Monitor student progress weekly in all General Education classes
Participate in required staff meetings, events, and activities
Adhere to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony among others
Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school
Agree to uphold Valley Christian's Statement of Faith
Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver license
Must have experience working with student with communication and learning disabilities
Must have patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students with disabilities reach their full potential
Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Ability to multi-task with organization
Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions
Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with outside vendors and businesses
Education and Experience:
Must have a master's or more advanced degree from an accredited institution, in Speech Pathology or Communications Disorders
A minimum of 250 clinical clock hours supervised by a university or a speech-language pathologist with a certificate of clinical competence
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
Experience working with students in special education
Physical Requirements:
Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time
Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and climbing stairs (2-story)
Use of hands, fingers, arms to reach, grip and maneuver objects
Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
Work in noisy and crowded school environment
Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
Frequent walking throughout the campus
Must be able to travel in state between campuses, to vendors, and to related events
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings
Must be able to work during prolong periods of standing and walking at events
Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times
Must be able to travel in state and out of state if applicable
