High school diploma required, 2 years of college completed preferred.
Coursework and/or experience in non-profit or special education preferred.
At least 2 years’ experience performing clerical and daily office tasks competently and using computers and Microsoft Windows applications at a proficient level.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all constituents (students/campers, administrators, colleagues, faculty, parents, and others) and in all situations.
Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Ability to engage intellectually and physically in all components of the clerical process and Specialized Recreation al Services departmental tasks/activities.
General Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Summer Assistant is responsible for performing office administration functions in support of the Specialized Recreation Director, Supervisor and Coordinators through the use of computer skills, phone skills, filing/organizational skills, and the use of office equipment. Additionally, she/he will support Specialized Recreation Services program staff, as needed. She/he acts as a confidential employee with regard to students, parents, and staff, and all information relative to them. She/he must enjoy an active workplace that requires high levels of flexibility, physical activity, resourcefulness and teamwork. Specific Duties And Responsibilities
Answer phone, take messages, and field/answer routine and non-routine questions. Place outgoing calls as necessary.
Prepare typed correspondence, schedules and forms, and transcribe material from written text to computer formats. Compose flyers and related material as needed. Proofread and edit all material to ensure correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and layout.
Greet visitors, provide information, and refer to appropriate administrators and staff members when necessary.
Work independently and/or within a team on special, nonrecurring and ongoing projects which may include: planning and coordinating in-service activities, disseminating information, and organizing special events and guest speakers.
Prepare student documents according to federal and state requirements ensuring that documents are submitted by required deadlines.
Purchase and coordinate necessary supplies and materials for all programs at local businesses. Receive, organize, and distribute supplies.
Organize, replenish and make samples of different craft and program activities.
Transport supplies to/from camp and other program locations. Transport students to/from program activities at off-campus sites if needed.
Catalog, coordinate, and disburse curricula and program materials.
Sort incoming mail for staff and prepare outgoing mail.
Interact with staff, students, and parents in a supportive and instructional manner. Maintain confidentiality of all information related to students, parents, and staff.
Maintain a professional, confidential and ethical relationship with colleagues, students and parents at all times.
Attend and actively participates in all faculty meetings, in-service meetings, and other meetings as required.
Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
