Valley Immediate Care is Hiring an Occupational Health Medical Assistant Near Medford, OR

Are you a Medical Assistant who loves serving patients, working hand in hand with a close knit team? Our Occupational Health Medical Assistant position includes

Summary: The Injured Worker Services Medical Assistant supports the Occupational

Health Services team to meet the goals of timely patient access, efficient patient flow, and

effective follow up creating a superior experience for both the patient and the employer.

The Injured Worker Services Medical Assistant directly supports the provider through a

range of tasks and responsibilities including clerical and direct patient care tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

● Occupational Health Services

1. Preps charts for provider review prior to patient appointments and ensures

completeness of the charts including tracking results for diagnostic exams

2. Checks in patients following department procedures

3. Prepares, organizes, and files correspondence from outside clinics or

companies.

4. Rooms patients, as needed, including escorts patients to exam room, and

communicates with patients clearly and respectfully

5. Gathers and enters patient complaint, patient current health status, and patient

work status

6. Measures and records patient vitals as needed

7. Assists provider in all aspects of patient care

8. Prepares exam rooms for new patients

9. Schedules and re-schedules appointments for Occupational Health / Workers

Compensation patients, as needed.

10. Manages provider schedules consistently and frequently reviewing and

adjusting the provider schedule days in advance to optimize patient flow and

provider productivity

11. Answers patient, employer, insurance questions pertaining to patient care,

treatment plans, requests for new attending physicians, and/or claims

12. Checks patients out following department procedures

13. Completes patient communication and patient calls as directed by provider

14. Develops and maintains relationships with local business / employers to stay

current with changing needs.

15. Faxes and scans documents

16. Enters summaries from outside medical notes received for provider review, as

needed

17. Serves as liaison between the Occupational Health team and the urgent care

staff

18. Keeps work area and front desk/waiting room area clean and tidy

● Report to work as scheduled, on time, and dressed appropriately;

● Work with all clinic staff to promote teamwork and help ensure a productive

and positive work environment;

● Other duties as reasonably requested

Other Duties / Responsibilities

● Drug Screen / BAT Specimen Collector

1. Collection of observed and non-observed drug screens including urine

specimen, hair specimen, and alcohol testing

2. Operate and troubleshoot Escreen devices

3. Operate and troubleshoot breath alcohol testing devices

4. Maintain daily logs of activities performed including all collections and travel

information

5. Enter data regarding collections into computer system

6. After hours (night and weekend) collections may be required

7. Ensuring all paperwork regarding and pertaining to collections performed are

completed properly by the collector and the donor at the time of the collection

8. Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the facilities utilized

9. Responsible for turning in all receipts, paperwork, and samples to the proper

designated areas

10. Responsible for immediately reporting any incidences that would hinder the

ability to successfully complete a collection

Education:

● High School Diploma or equivalent required

● Associates Degree preferred

● Ability to successfully complete Department of Transportation (DOT) and Breath

Alcohol Technician (BAT) certification preferred

Experience:

● Experience in occupational health preferred

● Experience in Medical Assisting and phlebotomy preferred

● Experience in medical billing preferred

● Experience with and knowledge of EMR preferred

● Experience as drug screen / BAT specimen collector preferred

Knowledge:

● Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and pharmacology

● Knowledge of vitals and medical documentation preferred

● Basic knowledge of medical billing

● Basic knowledge of occupational health / workers compensation programs

● Basic knowledge of substance abuse test sample collection

Skills and Abilities:

● Excellent customer service skills

● Excellent data entry and organization skills

● Ability to multitask paying attention to detail and patient needs

● Demonstrated ability to work independently and efficiently to accomplish

required tasks and duties with minimal supervision

● Ability to work at a rapid pace, being involved in several duties at one time

Language Skills:

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills

● Ability to communicate effectively with team members

● Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and

maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

● Ability to professionally document in the patient chart

● Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

● Ability to write routine correspondence

● Ability to communicate professionally and effectively to patients, providers,

business associates, and other medical offices specifically demonstrating

professional phone etiquette

Reasoning Ability:

● Ability to resolve practical problems

● Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and

schedule form

● Ability to give and follow written and verbal instructions in a safe and appropriate

manner

Mathematical Skills:

● Knowledge of basic mathematical computations and equations, and the ability to

add, subtract, multiply, divide and calculate figures

● Knowledge of basic measurement systems, and ability to convert units of measure

Computer Skills:

● Proficient in operation and use of PC

● Proficient in all Microsoft office products and web-based applications

● Proficient in EMR

Physical Demands:

● Regularly required to talk or hear at normal levels

● Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach with arms

and hands

● Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

● Regularly requires lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, carrying

● Regularly requires lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

● Vision corrected to normal range and occasionally requires close vision and

ability to adjust focus

Working Environment:

● Comfortable, indoor clinic and office environments. May require evening work.

● Noise level is usually moderate

● Frequent travel required between clinic sites. Requires work at both Grants Pass

clinic and Medford clinic.

● Tasks create exposure to hazardous conditions including potential exposure to

infectious diseases and potential close contact with individuals who are ill;

potential exposure to blood borne pathogens such as blood, bodily fluids, and/or

tissue; potential exposure to hazardous chemicals; potential exposure to physical

violence

● Machines, equipment, tools, supplies used: computer, fax, copier, calculator,

multi-phone system, scanner, Escreen device, BAT device

● Duties can be expected to be performed concurrently. Must be able to work under

conditions of constant interruption and be able to concentrate and stay on task.

● Patient Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) access

requirements include: treatment, payment and operations.
