As a Welder at Valmet, your responsibilities will include reading welding symbols and procedures per AWS 2.4, using cutting processes such as torch, plasma, and arc gouging, and correctly setting up welding equipment to weld materials such as non-ferrous metals, carbon, and various stainless steels.
You will rebuild components to original specifications using fabrication and welding techniques, apply various hard face weld overlay alloys through welding or brazing, and prepare and clean components both pre- and post-welding / cutting.
Additionally, you will establish appropriate pre- and post-heat methods, propose and implement weld method improvements and procedures, and suggest, recommend, and maintain safety procedures.
You will also perform other duties as assigned, including using equipment such as drill presses, lathes, mills, hones, and other hand tools as required.
Expectations
To excel in the role you must be capable of performing standard processes, including duplicating critical preheating conditions and utilizing MMA, SAW, SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW in all positions.
You should be skilled in producing weld overlays with both manual and automatic manipulators and have experience with industrial weld repair techniques on various plates, castings, and forged materials.
The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and a willingness to work overtime as needed. Adherence to safe working habits and the proper use of all required personal protective equipment (PPE) is a must.
You balance a desire to support and work closely with customers along with your passion for development of cutting-edge products.
To succeed in this role you will need
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in weld repair and hard face overlay on various ferrous and non-ferrous substrates.
A high school diploma and a trade school diploma with a specialization in welding, or equivalent education and experience, are required.
In-depth knowledge of American welding certification programs (AWS) and qualification in accordance with ASME Section IX Code are also preferred.
