Job Title Senior Controls Project Engineer Job Description Vanderlande's Controls Engineering Department is responsible for the designing, programming, commissioning, and testing of material handling systems for our customers. As a Senior Controls Project Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, commissioning /testing, of all types of material handling systems that integrate hardware and software components. You will be able to lead a team of other controls engineers and cross discipline contributors to deliver tangible results for the successful completion of project milestones and the system. Ensuring on time / on budget completion of project deliverables. Key Responsibilities:
Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Provide direction in the methods required to configure component level devices
Provide direction in the methods required to perform device level testing in support of PLC commissioning
Provide direction in the methods required to perform device level testing in support of SCADA commissioning
Provide direction in the methods required to perform zone level testing in support of PLC commissioning
Provide direction in the methods required to perform zone level testing in support of SCADA commissioning
Provide direction and perform area level testing in support of PLC commissioning
Provide direction and perform area level testing in support of SCADA commissioning
Document area level testing for PLC and SCADA commissioning (Product running test)
Provide remote customer service support for existing customers
Provide remote PLC and SCADA commissioning support
Lead engineers in the execution of complex, large, and unique projects
Lead junior Engineers in the execution of project deliverables
Lead the onsite effort to configure, commission and test the system
Lead the onsite effort of component and overall system performance tests
Monitor internal quality of controls deliverables to ensure high first pass yield
Lead continuous improvement actions to elevate the experience of other engineers
Serve in a leadership role in all aspects of managing the engineering execution, from software design, system design, network design, commissioning, and testing with a positive result contribution on technical performance and financial results
Ensure the quality and timeliness of all Controls Project Engineering deliverables
Work on quotation bids with the Systems & Sales department on new projects and/or existing project changes
Lead, support, promote, and improve software standardization
Serve as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for all aspects of commissioning and testing the system

Must be willing and able to travel 30% routinely, with increased amounts if projects demand
Knowledge of computer systems and Windows (personal computers)

Must have the ability to properly prioritize work/activities
Ability to understand PLC programs, SCADA systems
Ability to understand and interpret Electrical Schematics
This position requires occasional on-call after-hours support
Minimum 5 years of experience in implementation of material handling systems
Advanced skills in ladder logic, Allen-Bradley Systems; Studio 5000
Advanced skills in ladder logic, Siemens Systems; TIA-Portal
Demonstrable skills in HMI (Human Machine Interface) Design, Ignition, Indusoft, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View, WinCC, or WEB factory
Familiar with communication protocols (Ethernet IP, Modbus, etc.)
Demonstrable skills in electrical design and use of computer-based drafting/design, Auto CAD
Expert level understanding of installation, programming, and providing technical support of Controls hardware and software
Familiar with computer installation and setup (SCADA Server)
Possess a strong ability to solve problems and research solutions
Logical mentality, skilled in understanding and designing Engineering Science: Logic & Programming
Solid understanding of networking principles and computer hardware setup
Knowledge of project scheduling
Ability to identify network communication issues reactively and proactively
Troubleshoot electrical based problems on conveyor systems, motors, drives, etc.
Strong understanding of NEC (National Electrical Code)
Strong understanding of NFPA 70 / 79
Strong understanding of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations
Strong understanding of Electrical controls hardware design, communication networks and 480 VAC / 120VAC / 24VDC power distribution
Strong understanding of machine and system safety standards and design considerations
Ability to quickly assess a situation and take appropriate action
Good interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
Motivator and ability to work well with team members
Adherence to VI WoW and PM 2.0
Ability to read structured text, write preferred
Desired Qualifications:
Capable of programming in SQL, Visual Basic, C, C , C#, or equivalent
Experience in project management or leading teams
Exceptional communication skills both verbal and written
Six Sigma green belt certification
Disciplined Agile Scrum Master (DASM)
Professional engineering license
Strong understanding of VI WoW and PM 2.0, ability to drive process improvements
Master's Degree in an Engineering/Technology discipline
Understanding of Mechanical design as related to material handling industry
Physical Requirements:
Capable of working 10 hours standing / sitting / walking / climbing stairs
Must be comfortable working in an office setting and a factory / construction environment
