Vanguard University of Southern California is Hiring an Adjunct Faculty - Theology Near Costa Mesa, CA

Description Position Description: The School of Theology and Ministry focuses on the study of Scripture, theology and servant leadership, rooted in spiritual formation within the Pentecostal tradition. We prepare women and men to flourish in their Spirit-empowered callings and ministries through a relational journey with seasoned professors, who are experts in both academics and the practice of ministry.
The School of Theology and Ministry seeks applications for adjunct lecturers who are committed to integration of faith and learning in their respective fields. The applicants must have demonstrated teaching ability and a commitment to working with and encouraging diversity. The School of Theology and Ministry has regular openings for one or more of the following courses:
  • New Testament Survey
  • Old Testament Survey
  • Foundations of Christian Life
  • Introduction to Theology
  • Chirstian Heritage
  • Christian Worldview

Essential Functions: These duties reflect the primary responsibilities and expectations for an adjunct instructor, ensuring a comprehensive educational experience for students.
  • Teach one of the above-mentioned courses
  • Develop and update syllabi, lesson plans, and course materials, ensuring that course content aligns with institutional standards and learning outcomes.
  • Transfer knowledge including theory, practical skills, methods and techniques in his/her related field.
  • Challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and thinking.
  • Facilitate the learning of first-generation college students and incorporate culturally relevant pedagogy within the classroom.
  • Design and grade assignments, exams, and projects
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance
  • Submit grades and required documentation by established deadlines.
  • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree (MAT, MDiv, or MA) in Theology, Ministry, Church History, Biblical Studies or related field. PhD preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability.
  • A vibrant Christian faith, membership in the local Christian church, and commitment to an integration of faith and learning.
Salary: The following salary range reflects compensation paid for a 3-unit course (144 total hours) and varies based on the faculty member’s highest earned degree. Total compensation is based on the number of courses taught and corresponding units for each course.
$3,024 to $3,600

  • Personal Testimony of Relationship with Jesus Christ. Please provide a brief account of your experience of coming to faith in Christ. Include current church attendance, ministry, outreach and service involvement, any experience you have had with the Assemblies of God or other Pentecostal churches [250 words].
  • Philosophy of Christian Education and Role of a Christian University. Explain what you believe to be the elements essential to the educational theory & practice of a Christian University [250 words].
  • Integration of Faith, Teaching and Scholarship. Explain how you integrate your faith with your discipline & in your teaching and scholarship [250 words].
  • Pentecostalism, known for its emphasis on the work of the Holy Spirit, spiritual gifts, and an egalitarian spirit, has historically been more open to women in leadership and ministry roles than some other Christian traditions. Provide a brief summary on your view of women in ministry. Please be sure to explain how Pentecostal beliefs might influence your understanding on the role of women in ministry [250 words].
Curriculum vitae includes:
  • Colleges/universities attended; location, & degree earned.
  • With the most recent, a chronological listing of teaching experience - name and location of institutions, title/academic rank, full/part-time, dates of employment
  • A specific listing of courses previously taught
  • Publications, presentations, honors, awards, and memberships in professional organizations
  • Any other qualifying experience, paid/voluntary, other.
  • Pastoral Reference: The name of your current pastor, e-mail, and phone number, and name/denomination of church membership
