Market Development Department

The Market Development (MD) team is responsible for 3 key functions within our NA business: 1) market strategy, 2) site selection & acquisition, and 3) vertical market expansion planning. The MD team is responsible for the land and due diligence budget and execution for market expansions across North America, including identification of new markets, expansion planning efforts and completion of schematic design for handoff to construction. We are at the front-end of the process of ensuring we have the critical capacity required to meet the evolving requirements of our wholesale and hyperscale customer base. We evaluate supply, demand, pricing, power availability and other market factors to advise site acquisition, site development and construction when developing our market plans. The team collaborates with Sales, Solution Engineering, Construction, Operations, Finance and Senior Management along the way. One thing that distinguishes Vantage is that our staff are given the responsibility and authority to directly drive tangible results.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced GIS Operations Program Manager to lead our North American GIS mapping software initiatives in support of data center site selection and market strategy efforts. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of technical expertise, project and program management skills and partner management capabilities, with significant experience leading technical implementation projects requiring partner input and communications. With 8-10 years of significant experience, you will lead all aspects of our GIS program, be familiar with industry standards and effective approaches, manage user feedback, and ensure that the GIS program is built to help us deliver our land acquisition and market development goals.

This role can be remote based. Travel is required (see Job Requirements).

Essential Job Functions

  • Program Management

    • Lead the NA GIS function end to end, including business requirement mapping, user feedback, functionality improvements and software integrations as needed.

  • Technical Implementation:

    • Coordinate the development, deployment, and maintenance of GIS mapping software, ensuring that the web-accessed platform can support the needs of the Market Development and Sales teams at Vantage on an ongoing basis.

    • Ensure the integration of GIS data with other business systems and datasets as needed.

    • Develop and implement GIS data standards, quality control procedures, and effective approaches.

    • Resolve technical issues related to GIS software and data.

    • Be engaged in the GIS industry and familiar with the latest trends, upgrades and functionality that could support VDC; make recommendations based on this knowledge.

  • Project Management:

    • Scope and lead GIS projects from inception through completion, ensuring timely delivery and meeting user requirements.

    • Develop project plans, timelines, and achievements; be able to lead scope and schedule and budget to achieve desired outcomes.

    • Coordinate with multi-functional teams to capture requirements, define project scope, and allocate resources.

    • Monitor project progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Stakeholder Management:

    • Engage with internal and external partners to understand their GIS needs and requirements.

    • Communicate project status, updates, and risks to partners.

    • Facilitate meetings and presentations to keep partners informed and engaged.

    • Build and maintain positive relationships with partners to ensure satisfaction and support.

    • Demonstrate confident communication and exemplify ability to deliver results multi-functionally across multiple business units.

    • Report to executives on progress as needed.

  • User/Client Feedback and Support:

    • Collect and analyze user feedback to advise system enhancements and improvements.

    • Deliver training and support to end-users on GIS tools and functionalities.

    • Develop user documentation, guides, and training materials.

    • Implement a system for tracking and addressing user issues and feedback.

  • Additional duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.

  • Experience:

    • 8-10 years of experience in GIS program management or a related role.

    • Experience in data center site selection or other site selection capacity is a plus but not required

  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms.

    • Experience with Excel, Smartsheets and Power BI strongly preferred.

    • Experience in people management is preferred.

    • Solid project management skills, with experience using project management tools.

    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

    • Knowledge of programming languages (Python, SQL) and GIS scripting is a plus.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Networked in GIS industry with the ability to bring forward innovative enhancements.

    • Travel required is expected to be up to 5% but may increase over time as the business evolves.

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000 Base Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • This position is eligible for company benefits including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and AD&D, short and long-term disability coverage, paid time off, employee assistance, participation in a 401k program that includes company match, and many other additional voluntary benefits.

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
