Varley is Hiring a Human Resources Manager Near New York, NY

We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to join our New York team. The role would report to HR in the UK and work closely with Senior Management to align all HR practices with organisational goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate will support the full scope of Human Resources responsibilities and partner with the organization on strategic initiatives. They will maintain and enhance the organization's human resources by planning, implementing, and evaluating human resources policies, programs, and practices.

This role is pivotal in managing Human Resources in the US and would be the main point of contact for our growing US team. Managing recruitment and our talent acquisition process and ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations. Developing and managing compensation and benefits programs.

Working closely with HR team and Senior management to oversee employee relations, performance management, and development programs to enhance employee skills and career progression.

Working with Senior Management to shape the company culture and promote the organisational values, fostering an inclusive and engaging work environment. Responsibilities

Recruitment

  • Oversee the recruitment and selection processes, including job posting, reviewing resumes, conducting initial screening interviews, and coordinating interviews.
  • Working with managers to ensure the hiring process is efficient and effective.
  • Lead the onboarding process for new hires, including preparing welcome emails and orientation materials and communicating with line managers.

Employee Relations

  • Manage employee relations, addressing and resolving issues effectively, a key contact for HR-related queries from employees
  • Oversee performance management processes and employee development programs.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations.
  • Implement HR policies that align with company goals and work with the HR Manager to develop these.
  • Maintain databases and tracking systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Managing information and records in the Human Resources Information Systems, ADP, and Notion, the company knowledge and project management system.
  • Lead the onboarding process for new hires, including preparing welcome emails and orientation materials and communicating with line managers.
  • Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and discretion when handling personal and private matters related to employees. Ensure that sensitive information is securely managed and disclosed only to authorized personnel.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and ensure compliance.
  • Oversee employee benefit programs (e.g., health insurance, staff discounts).
  • Assist in performance management processes, including appraisals and employee development programs.

Payroll

  • Accurately manage and process the organization's payroll bi-monthly.
  • Gather and verify all necessary payroll-related information, including timesheets, attendance records, and other relevant data from Senior Managers.
  • Input collected payroll information into the HR system with a high level of accuracy, ensuring that all employee records are up-to-date and reflect the current payroll status.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws and company policies during payroll processing and generate detailed payroll reports for management review.
  • Address and resolve any payroll discrepancies or issues, working collaboratively with employees and other departments to ensure satisfactory resolutions.
  • Maintain and update the HR system regularly to ensure its smooth operation and the integrity of payroll data.

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR management.
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices, labor laws, and regulations.
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking and communications skills
  • Attention to detail and maintain quality and accuracy. good judgement
  • Be able to work autonomously with good judgment.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • Experience with HR software and tools.
  • A real people person who loves getting to know people and building relationships and community.
  • Be able to think logically, use common sense and a service-minded approach to dealing with issues as they arise.
  • Ability to be calm under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Initiative to escalate issues appropriately and handle decisions in a responsible way
  • Ability to manage time effectively.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR management.
  • Strong knowledge of HR practices, labor laws, and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented, able to execute campaigns efficiently while maintaining quality and accuracy.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • Experience with HR software and tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • HR certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).
  • Experience in a similar industry.
  • Degree in HR or a related field
