Vast is looking for a Machining Manufacturing Engineer, reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location. The Machining Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the development and design of all aspects of the machining process with a focus on machines, integration within production, and fostering the relationship between our engineering and manufacturing teams. Responsibilities
Optimize and develop all aspects of the manufacturing process within machining
Work with all engineering teams to develop processes for new designs that leverage the full capability of the technology
Create and manage manufacturing BOMs, work instructions, and specifications
Work with new machines from installation through troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance, while developing standard operating procedures and communicating with machine suppliers to address needs and problems
Run RCA's on manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions
Review drawings for manufacturability
Produce reports, procedures, and manuals to document results to mature development processes for production
Work with all engineering teams to help develop reliable processes that help us meet our launch goals
Develop process and procedure controls to bring the department into AS9100D compliance
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline
Preferred Skills & Experience
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design inputs for improved manufacturability
Master’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
Knowledge of NASA 6030 spec
Knowledge of AS9100D qualification processes
Knowledge of various additive and subtractive manufacturing and joining techniques for metals
Knowledge of GD&T
Experience in propulsions design or development of metallic additive technologies
Ability to perform trade studies using first principles and engineering fundamentals
Experience with NX, Solidworks
Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly present recommendations
Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment
Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
Additional Requirements
Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
Salary Range: California $85,000—$132,000 USD Compensation And BenefitsBase salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand.
