QC Lab Assistant

Position Summary:

The QC Lab Assistant is responsible for supporting other QC staff with testing materials and finished products to ensure they conform to all applicable laws, regulations and company standards. Quality Control Lab Assistants test products across the three stages of production (before, in-process, and final) to ensure quality levels are met.

Reporting Relationships:

• Report to Director of Quality

• Works in close collaboration with Senior Chemist, Chemist, QC Techs, and QC Assistants

• Works in cooperation with Production, R&D, Receiving, Planning, Shipping, and Customer Service

Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

• Routine Work:

o Perform daily verification of lab equipment and instruments (balance, pipette, refrigerator, freezer, oven, FTIR, GCMS, pH meter, Incubators, etc.)

o Document and sample incoming Raw Materials

o Analyze raw materials, intermediates and bulk goods using:

▪ Instrumentation- FTIR

▪ Wet Chem- Density, Specific Gravity, Draw Downs, Percent Solids, Gardner’s Test, pH, etc.

▪ Organoleptic- Evaluation of material using one’s senses

o Support Chemist and Technicians by:

▪ Preparing samples, media, broth, and solvent solutions as needed

▪ Cleaning lab glassware

▪ Stocking workstations with lab supplieso Change disposition of raw materials, intermediates and bulk goods from QC after evaluation (APPROVED/REJECTED/OOS/REWORK)

o Cleans and maintains assigned areas and performs other duties as needed.o May be involved

in minimal handling of Hazardous waste.

• Non-Routine Work:

o Provide backup responsibilities to other QC team members

o Provide monthly metrics to the Director of Quality

o Participate in department meetings scheduled on Outlook calendar

o Monitor, track, and report on quality issues

o Report results for OOS and Expiration Extension analysis

o Assist with stability studies

o Assist with maintenance of QC sample retentiono Assist with maintenance of QC documents

o Assist with maintenance of Lab Inventory; consumable chemicals, supplies and controls

o Work to keep Lab in adherence with 5S and Safety policies Skills Preferred

Preferred Education/ Experience:

• Associated degree in life science or 2 years QC experience

• Knowledge of cGMP, cGLP, FDA, OSHA and Municipal Regulations

• Experience with cosmetics, food science, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, or specialty chemical manufacturing desirable.
