vcu is Hiring an Admissions Receptionist Near Richmond, VA

Position Summary:
VCU Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success' Office of Admissions is searching for a motivated and dedicated hourly Receptionist. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Admissions in the Office of Admissions, the Receptionist provides excellent customer service to all guests who visit the VCU Welcome Center and the Office of Admissions. The position is responsible for handling a high volume of calls from prospective students and their families and for interacting with these individuals on a daily basis.
Core Responsibilities:

Customer Service (55%):
Answers multiple telephone lines (approximately 10) timely and accurately.
Assists prospective students and others who are requesting admissions information or general university information.
Greets guests and walk-ins by providing publications, answering questions, and making referrals to counselors or other offices.
Records phone messages and requests.
Checks in prospective students visiting for daily information sessions and tours.

Administrative Support (25%):
Displays, stocks, and updates resource materials in the Welcome Center.
Opens and closes the receptionist areas each day (voicemail on/off, doors opened/locked, etc.).
Addresses and sends prospective student thank-you notes.
Assists in supervising student workers.
Assists in training new employees and student workers.
Assists other areas in admissions with special projects and special events, and takes initiative to seek additional work during slow periods.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Data Entry (20%):
Enters data into the prospective student database in a timely and accurate manner.
Enters data regarding admissions recruitment events into databases.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
High school diploma or GED.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to assist and work with diverse customers over the telephone and in-person.
Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Suite software.
Strong data entry skills.
Experience multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced, diverse customer service setting.
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress.
Experience with a customer relations management (CRM) system.
Experience working in a university or college student service center.
Extensive knowledge of admissions policies and procedures.
Experience working with students and parents.
Experience answering high volume of phones calls.
Other Position Details: This role is primarily expected to be performed on campus.
