VCUHSA VCU Health System Authority is Hiring a Remote Associate Vice President, Health System Administration

The AVP for Health System Administration (AVPHSA) serves as an advisor and executive resource for the Health System COO and CEO. The AVPHSA supports the senior management team in advancing the mission and interests of the Health System by working with the COO, CEO, and entire management team to implement the mission, vision, values, strategies, and goals of the Health System. This position supports the COO and CEO in ensuring effective, ethical and efficient operations and administration across the Health System and performs executive functions that require a thorough knowledge of Health System policies, procedures, and operations and an understanding of the Health System’s role within the community as well as its essential relationship with the University. The position plays a leadership role in the coordination of Health System senior leadership and handles executive operations and executive functions on behalf of the COO and CEO, as delegated. The AVPHSA may from time to time coordinate urgent responses to critical and sensitive issues facing Health System Administration. Essential Job Statements Serves as a supplemental and senior liaison between the COO and CEO and the senior management team and other reports. Provides day-to-day project management assistance for initiatives primarily directed at the COO and CEO. Oversees, on behalf of the COO, the Enterprise Project Management Office. On assignment, may represent the COO or CEO in internal and external meetings. Ensures clear, effective and timely communications between and among the COO, CEO and their reports. Works in close collaboration with inpatient and outpatient leadership to ensure effective Health System operations. Attends Health System Executive committee meetings as a non-voting member. Closely coordinates activities with faculty leaders (Department Chairs) and other key clinical influencers, the practice plan, and key external partnerships. On behalf of the COO and CEO, integrates with major University (VCU) departments that have essential integrated programs with the Health System (Police/Security, Real Estate, Facilities Management, Marketing, among others). Works closely with CEO in his/her dual role as SVP for Health Sciences to ensure maximal collaboration between the Health System and the six Health Sciences Schools of the University. Advises the COO and CEO to ensure that they are informed in a timely manner of all critical issues that require attention and decision-making; assembles complete and accurate information, as well as coordinates the thorough analysis of options. Partners and coordinates activities among the Health System management team and senior leadership to ensure the effective development of strategic institutional, executive and board priorities and to ensure alignment of institutional efforts and resources with these strategic priorities. Works with the COO and CEO to ensure coordination of planning in the development of the Health System's annual and multi-year vision, goals, and agenda. Coordination may include work across all business units aa well as meetings and events associated with planning and implementation of the Health System's goals. Provide oversight, expertise, and supervisory oversight for the strategic initiatives of the COO and CEO. Authorized to ensure the effective monitoring and accountability functions of major Health System wide initiatives and institutional operations as direct representative of the COO and CEO. Serve as the COO and CEO's liaison to internal and external constituencies as appropriate to the achievement of institutional, executive and board priorities. On behalf of the COO and CEO, ensures the effective coordination of appropriate Heath System entities to resolve questions, concerns, issues, crises and requests coming to the Office of the COO and CEO. Ensure the timely analysis of policy and other local, state, and national issues, identify impacts to Health System’s market, strategic, and reputational position, and recommend appropriate actions or responses to senior leadership. Stays well-informed of local, state, and national events and issues and keep the COO and CEO informed as these relate to the Health System. As the needs of the COO, CEO, and the Health System may change across time, other duties may be assigned at the COO’s and CEO's discretion. Contributes to the overall success of the Health System by performing other essential duties and responsibilities duties as assigned by the COO or CEO. Employment Qualifications Required Education: Bachelor's degree in health care administration or business equivalent Preferred Education: Master's or appropriate advanced degree in Health Care Administration (MHA or MHSA), or business equivalent (e.g. MBA) Licensure/Certification Required: N/A Licensure/Certification Preferred: N/A Minimum Qualifications Years and Type of Required Experience Minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant and successful work experience at a large, complex organization dedicated to Health Care delivery Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Experience working in a healthcare environment, preferably in academic health Cultural Responsiveness Experience working in organizations with diverse populations and cultures.
