The PositionWe are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Product Development team as Senior Automation Engineer. This exciting and challenging role is primarily responsible for programming, developing, optimizing, integrating, and validating liquid handling automation (Hamilton) methods towards implementation of molecular LDT assays in a CLIA laboratory.

The PositionWe are looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Product Development team as Senior Automation Engineer. This exciting and challenging role is primarily responsible for programming, developing, optimizing, integrating, and validating liquid handling automation (Hamilton) methods towards implementation of molecular LDT assays in a CLIA laboratory.
- This is an onsite role based in South San Francisco
- Collaborate with colleagues in Automation, Product Development, and Clinical Operations teams to conceptualize, design, program, integrate, and verify new automated NGS workflows utilizing liquid handling instruments.
- Develop and verify new liquid handling automated assay methods.
- Lend expertise to Automation Support Engineers to ensure highest performance specifications of Veracyte’s fleet of instrumentation.
- Work with software/IT to integrate LIMS and other data management systems into automated workflows.
- Leverage molecular assay experience to translate test procedures from manual to robust automated formats.
- Collaborate with colleagues to come up with creative and novel solutions to challenging problems.
- BS or higher in Engineering, Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field.
- Extensive practical experience in automated liquid handling instruments with deep experience on Hamilton instruments required; at least 5 years of relevant industry experience in laboratory automation required.
- Prior experience in developing qualification, calibration, and preventive maintenance procedures for LDT equipment is highly preferred.
- Academic training and practical expertise with standard molecular laboratory techniques such as PCR, RNA/DNA analysis, microarray and/or NGS
- Experience with designing, programming, operating, and troubleshooting automated molecular assays
- Ability to collaborate with various other groups including R&D scientists, CLIA lab staff, software, bioinformaticians, LIMS, as well as external vendors.
- Excellent organization skills including writing and communication of technical records, SOPs, ERDs, and process maps.
