Verily’s Workbench software provides a secure collaborative environment for data generators, research, and biopharma organizations to govern and analyze their data. The platform is part of Verily Viewpoint, an end-to-end suite of solutions that power the evidence generation needed to make safe, effective therapies available faster to those who need them. Workbench incorporates technology and best practices developed through years of building data infrastructure for large research initiatives such as the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Program, the Accelerating Medicines Partnership® Parkinson’s disease (AMP PD) program, and the Project Baseline Health Study. We seek an experienced engineering leader to manage the product engineering team (~8 engineers), collaborating closely with product management, UX, and leadership to deliver enterprise-targeted features. The team is currently executing on an ambitious multi-cloud, customer-centric vision. As a leader on Verily’s Terra team, you will be responsible for scaling the product and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software to facilitate world-class computational research.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of 7-8 engineers responsible for full-stack and backend feature development of the Workbench product.
• Work with the product management team to prioritize, explore, and execute on new concepts targeting enterprise researcher use cases.
• Encourage a culture of product excellence and empathy for the needs of academic and industry biomedical researchers.
• Cultivate relationships and collaborations with other Verily engineering teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• 5 years experience as a software engineer in an industry setting.
• Expertise in building software and systems on one of: GCP, AWS or Azure.
• Experience delivering major systems/subsystems as a manager or project lead for a team of engineers.
• Clear written communication, especially in process and architecture documents.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years experience as an engineering manager.
• Demonstrated expertise in the Java and React ecosystems.
• Experience participating in open-source projects and/or cross-organizational partnerships.
• Experience with (or passion for) providing tools to scientists on the forefront of computational biology & genomics research.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000 - $256,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
