Position Summary

Our Continuous Improvement Director is a highly regarded position within our company. It reports to our Chief Operating Officer and is relied upon to make our overall business, and especially our manufacturing plants, as efficient and effective as they can be. This role will be instrumental in developing and implementing our Continuous Improvement strategy and culture. This includes planning, directing and managing our company-wide lean activities to support the fabrication of our country’s highest-quality steel bridges and structures. As such, this role will be highly integrated in our efforts to arrange, optimize, and supervise our scheduling and manufacturing processes. Our Continuous Improvement Director needs to be an analytical thinker that can easily communicate our lean vision and strategy in a way that will engage and motivate our employees, from the boardroom to the plant floor, to be a part of it. This role is key to creating and maintaining a strong culture of continuous improvement within our Veritas facilities.

Work Relationships 

Reports to the Chief Operating Officer. This Director will oversee a team of CI professionals who will Work closely with all departments and managers to ensure no gaps exist in our lean practices. The Director and his team will review work processes and our technology to ensure they are perfectly aligned to root out waste. Will work closely with all Veritas facilities and organizations to drive best practices throughout the company’s manufacturing footprint. This includes overseeing the development and implementation of a multi-year capital expense plan.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Creating, gaining acceptance of and implementing a fully-developed continuous improvement strategy for the business
  2. Leading the implementation of a true continuous improvement culture
  3. Overseeing Continuous Improvement department personnel located across the sites
  4. Training workforce on lean and continuous improvement philosophies and tools
  5. Developing, evaluating, improving and documenting business and manufacturing processes
  6. Developing and implementing statistical process control techniques and procedures into manufacturing environments
  7. Analyzing manufacturing process flows continually to improve volume, quality, cost and through put to maximize productive capacities of all manufacturing sites
  8. Collaborating with configuration control and design engineering regarding product tooling and design to ensure effective production methods and tools
  9. Conferring with vendors in determining product specifications and arranging equipment, parts, or material purchase
  10. Collaborating with Production Managers to estimate staffing requirements, production times, and relative costs to provide data for operational decisions
  11. Working closely with Production Managers to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for employees to improve our overall business
  12. Designing and developing manufacturing processes for enhancements, product changes, and new products, and related fixtures and tooling that are consistent with zero defect level and low product cost
  13. Creating and maintaining accurate documentation of tool drawings, design concepts, shop orders, and concepts
  14. Providing engineering support in production department to trouble shoot and resolve technical problems
  15. Coordinating work with the Maintenance Supervisor to assigned technicians, and outside vendors to projects
  16. Supporting company policies and procedures, goals and objectives

Educational Background

  • Require bachelor’s degree in engineering or a manufacturing-related program (supply chain, quality, etc.); prefer a master’s degree in a manufacturing-related field
  • Require 10 or more years of experience in manufacturing
  • Prefer Six sigma-related certification – Black Belt, Green Belt, etc.
