Job Description

VersaDesk is seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with a strong background in product growth, market expansion, and extensive experience in the direct to consumer goods sector. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, a proven track record of driving exponential product and market growth, and the ability to lead a diverse team towards achieving our ambitious growth targets. The CEO will play a crucial role in driving growth on existing and new marketplace channels, fostering a strong culture of accountability, focusing on product innovation, finding the best market fit for new products, closely monitoring financial KPIs, and preparing the company for a potential sale in a few years. The ideal candidate must also have a strong understanding of marketing and sales, possess lots of energy and enthusiasm, and have experience bringing one or more companies to market for sale.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement the company's vision, mission, and overall strategic direction.
  • Lead the executive team to establish long-term goals, strategies, and policies.
  • Oversee and coordinate efforts across the company's 8 departments: Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, Engineering, Production, Shipping, Accounting, and Human Resources.
  • Ensure alignment of the company’s strategy with market trends and customer needs.
  • Communicate a clear strategic vision to all stakeholders, ensuring buy-in and alignment across the organization.
 
  1. Team Leadership and Development:
  • Attract, retain, and develop top talent across the organization.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive culture that encourages high performance and accountability.
  • Foster a strong company culture of accountability, ensuring all team members understand their roles and responsibilities and are held to high standards of performance.
  • Mentor and support the executive team and other senior leaders, providing guidance and development opportunities to build a strong leadership pipeline.
  • Implement leadership development programs to nurture future leaders and ensure continuity of leadership.
 
  1. Market Expansion:
  • Lead and execute comprehensive strategies to enter new markets and increase market share in existing markets.
  • Conduct in-depth market research to identify growth opportunities and consumer trends.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders to drive sales and market penetration.
  • Expand the company’s presence on existing and new marketplace channels, optimizing strategies for each platform to maximize growth and profitability.
  • Support the development of tailored marketing and sales strategies to address the unique needs of different market segments.
 
  1. Product Growth and Innovation:
  • Drive the product development lifecycle from concept to market launch, ensuring high-quality, innovative products that meet market demands.
  • Oversee the identification of new product opportunities, leveraging market research and consumer insights.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the product development teams, encouraging experimentation and calculated risk-taking.
  • Collaborate with R&D to ensure product designs are cutting-edge and meet customer expectations.
  • Identify and implement strategies to improve existing products, ensuring they remain competitive and aligned with market trends.
 
  1. Financial Performance:
  • Manage the company’s financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and execute strategies to enhance profitability and shareholder value.
  • Closely monitor financial KPIs, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring the company is on track to meet its financial goals.
  • Prepare the company for a potential sale in a few years, ensuring all financial and operational metrics are optimized and attractive to potential buyers.
  • Secure and manage funding and investment opportunities to support growth initiatives.
 
  1. Operational Excellence:
  • Oversee the company’s operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effective management of resources, especially in the areas of fulfillment.
  • Implement operational best practices and process improvements to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Champion the optimization of the customer experience and fulfillment processes to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with other executives from 3PLs (Third-Party Logistics) and carrier partnerships to enhance distribution efficiency and reliability.
 

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field; MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior leadership roles within the direct to consumer goods industry.
  • Experience with preparing and bringing a company to market for sale (IPO, exit event, etc).
  • Extensive experience in marketing and sales.
  • Proven experience in driving product growth and market expansion.
  • Financial acumen with experience in managing budgets and financial plans.
  • Strong understanding of the computer furniture market or related industries.
  • Excellent strategic planning, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, fostering collaboration and innovation.
