The Exploratory Research group conducts drug discovery in new disease areas, new therapeutic targets, and new therapeutic modalities to aid in the discovery of transformative medicines for patients. Our team develops early screening assays, preforms target identification and mechanism of action studies. The group uses a variety of chemical biology, cell and molecular biology approaches, automation platforms, and automated liquid handling to make fundamental discoveries that impact drug discovery at Vertex.

The team is currently looking to recruit a laboratory-based research scientist with experience in RNA biology and target validation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct cell-based and molecular biology assays
• Perform experimental troubleshooting and optimization
• Apply appropriate statistical methods to QC and data analysis
• Present experiment results and conclusions to project teams in a timely manner
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment or independently when needed to facilitate the success of projects.
• Adhere to high standard for laboratory records and electronic database entries

Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrated experience in RNA isolation and quantitative mRNA measurement including RT-qPCR and ddPCR
• Demonstrated mammalian cell culture expertise
• Experience utilizing automation, including liquid handling and automation to increase assay throughput
• Experience with data analysis software (Prism, Genedata Screener)
• Expertise in CRISPR-based gene editing
• Exemplary work ethic and commitment to learn new skills and expertise when required
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

Education and Experience

• Ph.D(or equivalent degree) in molecular and cell biology, or related disciplines and 0-3 years of post-doctoral experience. Candidates with an MSc with 2 years or BS with 5 years of equivalent experience will also be considered.

$50-60/hr
