Job Summary

The Sr. Director, IT PMO and Chief of Staff is a senior IT executive role seen as one of the CIO's trusted partners in leading IT to become a business-oriented organization. The position reports to the CIO and often serves as the second in command of the IT organization, responsible for managing the office of the CIO (OCIO), providing leadership for the cross-functional management of information and technology across the enterprise. It oversees functions of IT strategy, governance, performance management, PMO, enterprise architecture, M&A (due diligence and integration), continuous improvement and the definition of IT ways of working (for example, common methodologies, processes, and tools for developing and operating IT).

This role is essential to coordinating strategic and operational initiatives designed to offer leading capabilities and digitally rich experiences to our clients and colleagues. This role will work closely with the CIO to come up with future roadmaps and IT strategy. The right candidate will have cross-functional knowledge and business management skills to provide leadership, insight and discipline toward effective governance and service delivery. The right candidate will have an effective communication style and effectively communicate across the organization and with key partners.

The position focuses on ensuring that the IT organization "does the right things" through strategy and governance, as well as "doing things right" through organizational and operational model development and performance management. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the processes for defining the strategies that results in a portfolio of projects that are evaluated for investment. 
  • Merger and acquisition due diligence and integration
  • Enterprise architecture
  • Continuous improvement across all of IT, using Lean, Six Sigma, Design Thinking, and many other methodologies.
  • Work closely with CIO on operational reviews for each of their directs.
  • Come up with efficient and effective ways to reporting progress for all of IT (weekly / monthly dashboards, templates etc.)
  • Facilitate effective collaboration, communication, and delivery across capability towers.
  • Mature an overall IT portfolio management function for Vertiv. In this context, implement and support standardized processes, governance and reporting throughout the organization.
  • Oversee the governance of the IT organization with key stakeholders and through effective operation reviews, etc.
  • Assist in the effective delivery and management of cross-functional initiatives through the implementation of a stage gate process that takes initiatives through ideation, feasibility, proforma development, execution, and project closure.
  • Harmonize and standardize project managements practices across the global organization utilizing common tools and systems.
  • Drive implementation of standard tools to estimate, prioritize and track projects within the portfolio. This includes documenting key risks and developing a basic understanding of what is required to mitigate them.
  • In partnership with finance, ensure proper forecasting, budgeting and delivery to financial targets and ROI realization.
  • In partnership with procurement, ensure we develop and maintain effective relationships with global partners while maximizing our external investments.
  • Coach and develop Project/Program Managers as a key trusted advisor.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Marketing; or related discipline
  • At least 7 years of experience as a Senior Program/Project Manager.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience directing and/or overseeing an enterprise wide PMO. 
  • Formal training and certifications are preferred - PMP, CSM, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in all areas of project planning, development, management, and implementation; ability to design, prioritize, and oversee a complex, global project portfolio, including large project budget management.
  • Managerial skills necessary to plan, measure, and motivate people in a highly matrixed environment to continuously improve their output and personal growth.
  • Understanding of project risk, risk management, and mitigation
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable a productive relationship at or above his/her peer level in the business.
  • Reasonable knowledge of data center market, equipment, design, deployment, and 3rd party integration
  • Effective communication ability, both verbal and written
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
