Veterans Health Administration is Hiring a Physician (Geri-PACT Clinical Medical Director) Near Memphis, TN

The Geri-PACT Medical Director manages the program staff physicians and mid-level providers. He/she is responsible for overall clinical supervision and management of patients in the Geri-PACT Program. He/she is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of medical systems to deliver quality health care for the Geri-PACT patients, which includes performance improvement activities.

Qualifications:


To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR
    [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR
    (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
    Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as 'Physician Resident Providers' (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a 'scope of practice' that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Moderate Lifting (15-25 lbs); Moderate Carrying (15-25 lbs); Straight Pulling {up to 2-3 hours); Pushing (up to 2-3 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Walking (up to 1-2 hours); Kneeling (up to 1 -2 hours); Repeated bending (up to 1 to 2 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable; Far vision correctable; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Hearing (aid permitted).

Responsibilities:

This vacancy will remain open until filled.

Duties include but not limited to:
  • Monitors appropriateness of care provided to patients in the Geri-PACT Program. Collaborates with the Geri-PACT Team in handling patient medical complaints, investigates unusual occurrences, and prepares responses for signature of the Director via the Associate Chief of Staff GEC or the Chief of Staff. He/She will provide direct patient care for a panel of frail, elderly Geri-PACT patients in addition to these supervisory duties.
  • Responsible for formulating educational programs for medical staff involvement in the Geri-PACT Program at the Memphis VA Medical Center. He/she is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of medical systems to deliver quality health care for the Geri-PACT patients, which includes performance improvement activities. The MD coordinates the educational and clinical experience of medical students, residents, and fellows assigned to the Geri-PACT Program. The incumbent must be eligible for a faculty appointment at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in order to teach trainees.
  • The Geri-PACT MD will lead Geri-PACT team meetings (huddles) to discuss clinical and administrative issues, specific patient care problems and professional staff needs, offering solutions to problems and identifying areas where policy should be developed. He/she keeps the Geri-PACT team apprised of medical care advances and practice standards. The Geri-PACT MD will arrange physician coverage and communicates the plan of coverage to the Geri-PACT team. He/She joins other Geri-PACT physicians and providers in providing medical administrative support such as reviewing, approving and signing forms requiring physician signature for the Geri-PACT patients.
  • The Medical Director for Geri-PACT, promotes standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff which are maintained through: compliance with credentialing and privileging processes, monitoring and evaluation of clinical practice, peer review, consideration of clinical performance matters in clinical privileging, and other appropriate performance improvement activities.
  • Serves as Staff Physician with affiliated Geri-PACT programs including Memory Clinic and the Falls reduction clinic. This may include oversight of a physician extender in these sub-clinics.
  • Provides comprehensive care for our veteran population such as diagnosis, care, and treatment of assigned patients. This includes timely completion of medical documentation.
  • Management experience with strong administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Other duties assigned.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
