Eastern Shore Animal Hospital is in need of an Urgent Care RVT or Veterinary Assistant as we continue to add weekend Urgent Care services to our growing Hospital.

We are hiring for the following : Weekend - 12-hour shifts or swing shifts (8am-2 pm or 2pm-8 pm) or 8am - 8 pm Part- time

Emergency Department Veterinary Assistant Duties:

• Provide animal nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians.
• Triage incoming patients.
• Assess patient stability and obtain patient vital signs.
• Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency, specialty, and hospitalized patients.
• Perform hourly patient assessment and monitoring.
• Observe patients and recognize changes in status.
• Place peripheral and central catheters.
• Restrain patients for exams and treatments.
• Set up and administer IV and SQ fluids.
• Maintain urinary catheters.
• Bandage removal and application
• Perform suture and drain removal.
• Perform drug dose calculations for injectable medications and CRIs.
• Administer injectable medications (IV, IM, SQ)
• Administer other medications (PO, OU, OD)
• Maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients.
• Basic wound cleaning and care
• Administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia.
• Monitor patients while under anesthesia and maintain a monitoring log.
• Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia.
• Obtain samples for and perform in-house laboratory testing.
• Client communication and education
• Patient triage and discharge
• Hospitalized patient care
• Patient monitoring and treatments
• In-house laboratory testing
• Medication calculation and administration
• Venipuncture; IV catheter placement
• Digital radiography and more
